Caliper slightly sticking or something else? |
|
Thought I had noticed for a while more brake dust on the osf wheel.
Today I thought it was definate.
After a bit of a run the disc on that side was definately hotter and the disc on that side also seems a bit more worn.
Braking is still fine with no imbalance and the outer pad still has fair amount of meat on it (not checked inner, no time for getting wheel off at mo)
So, is it likely to be the caliper or something else, we are under LR cover but only their lower cover so is the dealer likely to say hard luck, not covered?
Cheers
Cliff

Not the EPB in this case. I'd get the wheel off and have a good look around. A good brake clean followed by fresh copper grease could be all that it needs.
Follow Bodsy's guide and all should be well.

Just read through policy and yes looks like calipers are covered, will we have to pay for new pads or are they changed foc due to failure of the caliper lol

if they are worn due to the failing part, I would assume it would be covered.... They'll be sure to tell you if it's not I'm sure! Bodsys Brake Bible

I had a calliper changed under warranty; covered the new pad too, but I was obliged to pay for the replacement pad on the other side of the axle & labour for such. Understandable & acceptable. Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Well it went in to dealer, they said they could find nothing wrong but agreed that the offside front disc has worn more than the nearside and that there was a fair bit more brake dust on that side.

everything had probably cooled down by the time they looked at it.
Is the wheel getting hot. My caliper was sticking and disc and caliper was showing a temp of 70c whilst the other wheels discs/calipers where showing 30c
wheel was hot to touch..
these are good to test with : http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=221048 Duncan

We checked it after a drive last Sunday and the off side disc was a lot hotter than the other, the wheel was fine though.
Its something that we had had suspicions about for a while though.
Dealer had it on Wednesday. The dealer had no answer for the extra wear and brake dust
I will take the wheel off next weekend and have a look.
At least it is noted that we think there is a problem

my caliper seemed fine but was tight to retract so just kept applying the brakes and wore the pads and discs down Duncan

This is what I think is happening to ours Duncan, I have had a brake stick on in the past on an older car which was a lot more noticeable (smell for one) but this I think is just not releasing quite enough.
