That's a good point actually. If things keep going wrong whilst it's still covered by the warranty, I would eventually end up with a brand new car. Now that is a right result!

Normally say new engine as the labour cost involved in stripping the old one down and replacing all the bits ( valves, cams etc) is very high .

Oh well, fingers crossed that the warranty will cover it. If I'm really lucky they might 'accidently' fit the 3.0 TDV6 from the D4!

Which belt has failed? The front or back one? The cambelts are due to be replaced at 105k or 7 years whichever comes first, but not a guarentee that it will last that long and I would imagine that they would have been checked at service intervals. cheers and good luck
Just recently had the front and back belts changed as well as the tensioners, bearings etc on my fathers D3 @ 6yrs old and 33,000 on the clock.
The old belts were like new, as the are situated behind a dust, water tight coverplate.ATB

I would say that it is more likely that the crank has gone, not a belt. Does sound like you will get a new engine and as has already been said your old ancillaries will be refitted to the new engine.

Well I've just given my dealer a chase and they've not looked at it yet so still waiting for the diagnosis. We'll just have to enjoy our Vauxhall Insignia courtesy car for a bit longer!

My thought is that it's the cam belt sensor that's packed up.I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Could well be the crank or camshaft sensor. Engine would turn over normally just not fire if it was a sensor issue.
