Cambelt failure
Hi all.
I've had my 55 plate TDV6 HSE Auto since July and unfortunately had a whole list of problems since then. Car has full LR history and only covered 66k miles. To be fair, everything has been covered by the warranty but the inconvenience has been a real pain.
However, today was the icing on the cake. Whilst going christmas shopping with my one year old daughter in the car, the cambelt decided it was time to fail completely, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. My local LR dealer tell me that cambelt is not due to be replaced until 105k miles so I am amazed that I'm having this problem with my car. Has anyone else had the same problem?

Which belt has failed? The front or back one? The cambelts are due to be replaced at 105k or 7 years whichever comes first, but not a guarentee that it will last that long and I would imagine that they would have been checked at service intervals. Has it been diagnosed as a failed cambelt? It could be something else if not. May be worth speaking to LR Customer Care if it has failed this early without warning, you never know they may offer something towards a repair.

Fair number of engines suffered crank failures, could it be that?? Asked as a non techie.

Thanks Zarnd.
Still waiting for confirmation from my dealer but roadside assistance said it could be nothing but the cambelt due to the way it failed and the way in which the car ground to a halt. Dealer seemed fairly positive that the used warranty would cover it but I'm not so hopeful.
Am getting fed up of seeing my D3 on the back of a recovery truck! Shame as I really like the car - more so when it's working!
Cheers

Could it be the hp diesel pump drive belt that has failed?

kc I run 2 D3s, one for me & one for SWMBO, but we have kept SWMBO's Jazz as D3s (in my experience) are complete hanger queens! You run a D3 inspite of its reliability, not because of it!

Not sure Gareth. As I pulled away from a roundabout the car felt and sounded like it was running on less than six cylinders, then an almighty clattering sound and the next thing the engine died and the dashboard looked like Blackpool illuminations. Thankfully was able to dive into a layby and wait for recovery. All happened within a few seconds so didn't have a chance to pull over and switch the engine off before it did anymore damage.
Hopefully won't be anything too terminal.

I agree with that DSL! When we bought the D3 I had a funny feeling that I would soon become good friends with my local dealer!

Marshall Land Rover in Lincoln.
To be fair to them they have been really good with all the other work that's been done. Wish I'd bought the car from them too but they couldn't find me what I wanted. Typical eh?!!

Thanks for brightening my evening DSL!! Think you're probably right though.
And thanks for that John C. We don't live too far from Marshalls either so just more convenient. Have called Duckworths before though for a second opinion.

If under warranty the more new bits the better!! Don't know, was a question for the techies hiding out there.
