Can not get through 40cm of crusted snow

Yesterday I was heading to my cottage and I find out that there was still 40cm of snow that had a thick and
hard crust on top.

After some effort I realized that D3 is not an icebreaker. I did managed to drive about 20 meters though.

Problem was not the depth of the snow but the crust.

So I left her alone and walked the rest of the way.

Some places the crust was so hard that it carried my weight easily.

Today, reversing back to the street was not easy as the temperature raised during the night and
the snow was more slippery.

The UK would stop if we had anything approaching a 1/5 of that amount.

Looks absolutely beautiful Thumbs Up

Or a Mantec plate and some momentum! Shocked

On second thoughts maybe not - it may just slide up on top of the crust and be stuck on its belly then. Big Cry

Curiously though, did you set it to the Mud Ruts setting. Snow Grass and Gravel setting doesn't work in deeper snow, something to do with gear ratios used in that setting I think.
Life is what you make it.

A reduction in throttle response... ie less power to start with.

Might have worked setting it to Sand and flooring it... doubt the crust would have held the D3 if you rose over it.

If you can't find a suitable Terrain Response setting arsi, maybe this item will help.

Might be a wee bit chillier then the D3 though!!

I tried Snow/Grass and Gravel first and then Mud and Ruts and even Rock Crawl. With Snow/Grass and Gravel I was able to steer, with the other settings the car was unsteerable in deep snow when the difflocks engaged.

I should have had snowchains. Standard studded wintertyres were not the best in that conditions.
