Sorry I have just seen this thread.
The device type should be "W-BUS". This is selected from the "Diagnosis" menu (then "Device Selection") in the WTT software.
Drivers for the VAGCOM cables (most on eBay are the CH340G type) are on the software config page which gives all the details to get WTT and the adapter set up correctly, plus some trouble shooting tips:
Worth a reset of the FBH (pull fuse or power plug to it - take care, FBH plastic cover is fragile) and checking the power LED is lit on OBD adapter.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the post.
I have tried all your ideas but still have no luck. Removing the fuse I can hear the fan on the heater run for about 1 min 45 secs and then it stops.
The VAG KKL adaptor is installed and Windows says it is working.
But when I try it with the VAG software I get this error

I have reinstalled XP in case it was a problem with my laptop.
So I have come to the conclusion that the VAG KKL adaptor is broken.
Unless I'm making a stupid mistake somewhere..?

I recently bought the lead from the shop followed the instructions an works spot on.

I don't think it's the lead form the forum shop, think it's the VAG lead at fault. I have another on order, from another supplier so will see what happens when it arrives.

Well I finally managed to connect to the heater!
Bought a new adaptor and updated anything i could find and it worked!
Now I just need to understand what's wrong with it. It runs for between 30 seconds and 2 minutes. This is measuring how long the 'Flame Detected' light is on for, then it goes off with a message of 'Flame Detector Cooling'.

Any ideas what needs doing next? I've read the Webasto manual but it doesn't mention and error message like this. The fault code is comes up with is 'No Start'.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

15.3 volts ? Does that mean you had the engine running?
I'm no expert but I know my altox unit won't start the FBH if the engine is running.

Matt, my own FBH is doing exactly the same, runs for short while, then shuts down.
I did manage to get it running full cycle by blowing air into it. It then worked without a problem for around 6 weeks but is back to running short term only.
I can force it to run every time but it's always the same. I now think my FBH, being on a 55 plate vehicle, is just full of accumulated crud so in the summer I'm going to strip it and clean it out.
I notice yours is a similar year, maybe it's time to strip and clean it up. Mods:

If you get it running look on the menu for Co 2 setting, its a slider bar, when its running and stable move this slider to the right this will run it at a faster speed, I use this method to burn off the crap inside, if it dont work then its a strip down.
I have also had success by squirting brake down the intake, but dont use to much as it will pop and bang and flame out.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions.
I've still got some questions which I hope you can shed some light on though.
As I understand it (from somewhere on this forum) that after the glow plug has ignited the fuel it changes function and monitors the flame. Does that sound right? And it does this by measuring resistance in the plug; as it gets hotter the resistance increases?
If that is the case then it does sound like it is sooted up and needs cleaning. I am wondering about a combination of air from a compressor and brake cleaning fluid (in moderation). I have also noticed a very small leak on the heater body which also can't be helping. Extensive testing (or tasting it!) confirms it is diesel.
I think what will happen is as it is coming into summer I will give up and only be reminded that it doesn't work after the next frost! In the meantime here's a little video of the thing in action, note also the leaking exhaust!
