I'm currently scouring everywhere for a good deal on a Discovery 3, and I came across a car supermarket selling cars they've imported back from Cyprus at a significant discount.
The vehicles are registered in this country are UK spec and have delivery miles (apparently).
It looks too good to be true (which usually means it is)
Other than the hit I would take when selling it on I can't see the catch though ?
Does anyone have any experience of this ?
Many Thanks

Looked into this Cyprus import thing very early on, but decided against it simply becuase it didn't feel right!
UK dealers have confirmed that they will undervalue a vehicle such as this by 20% all through its life. Whilst this means it is a better deal the longer you keep it, I reckon it's a bit like 'sticky out ears'......

I once purchased a new Merc Vito van from N.Ireland. It was imported from the South (then Euros) and then I drove it back from the North (via the ferry of course). I took it to my local Merc dealer for warranty and service work and nothing was every said - even though I used them for test drives and got a few quotes and re-quotes from them. When I sold the van privately, there was no extra depriciation as there was no way of telling it was an import. Nothing on the log booked showed this. I had the van for two years and did 33,000 miles and only lost about £2K on it - not pad for a new vehicle.
Therefore, an import should be okay as long as it is UK spec. Matt

motorpoint (did?) have so called SE from cyprus.
But no leather, no sat nav, no heated seats (guess they dont need these in cyprus) etc. etc.
Seemed to be speced below a UK S.
So becareful it could be an expensive badge !!!

Similar story to MPwox - I once bought a D2 TD5 ES through an importer (Browns NW of Preston). Paid £24,500 for a fully loaded / total spec vehicle (Y reg) and sold her 3 years later with 45,000 miles for £19,500. The buyer didn't know or care that the car had gone from Solihull to Spain and straight back again on a ferry before I originally picked her up. She was absolutely UK spec and the lowest depreciation I ever took on a vehicle. Would do that deal again tomorrow. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Heres the oneI saw http://www.motorpoint.co.uk/vehicle_detail...icle=77340
I rang them and the chap I spoke to kept reading me the spec he had and I had in front of me (which isn't very complete). Didn't seem sure on the exact spec (xenons or not to indicate possible year etc)
I was put off.
I think if it was a UK spec it would cost UK money as its here and ready to drive. I would sell it for top dollar if I was motorpoint.
Thanks for the replies.

I noticed the motorpoint cars are badged HSE but have SE 18" alloys, etc so basically they're not HSE's

well - i had a follow up call from motorpoint. The guy knew more than the original sales guy i spoke to re the spec, but not all still!
Did you know it didnt have leather he says.... no i said.
You're selling it as an SE and its an S I said.
It's an SE spec in Cyprus he replies.
He then tries to convince me it's a good deal.
I tell him it isn't and we end the conversation there.
It was too good to be true.
Interesting to know !
cheers

Beware that the specs varies from country to country... An SE in France might also well be an S in the UK... You can probably check that by comparing details on the websites of L.R in each country...
