Is it really that easy, thrashing it once a week ?
I replaced my EGRs about 9 month ago. The most common fault seems to be that the ball bearing of the bajonet-axle cracks (see attached picture).
The thing is,the chamber where this happens is not in the exhaust stream, so carbon building or unbuilding according to driving situation has IMO no big influence on the EGR-issue.

Could it be that the increased friction of a carbon build up puts extra pressure on the bearing causing it to fail?
 Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

using quality fuel with higher cetane ratings, or adding an injection cleaner fuel additive should give a cleaner burn.

EGR valves I have decided they are as much use as tits on a bicycle! Why are they there if they fail so often and people blank them off! Thank you gentlemen for all your helpful advice.
