I find a dab on the brake pedal with my left foot a few times works wonders!

Tried this once in a previous 4x4 - ended up with a Mercedes C Class as a towbar attachment. Confused
Scared the crap out of me and him, best thing was however, was that he had jumped a red light - i got an independent witness and called the police as he refused to give his details, he also threatened to hit me when i pointed out that leaving the scene of an accident is a crime and if he did hit me then i'd do him for assault, (boys in blue were most aggrieved about this physical threat and not at all concerned that he'd run a red light on a camera monitored junction..... Confused )
See him around now and again - drives an old golf GTI now - presume he can't afford to insure his Merc now hes lost his NCB. Laughing

Moral of the story - i don't hit the brake pedal unless i have to....

Agree with that but I found a great alternative. To remove an Censored -hugging tailgater I like to activate the rear fog lights aka the "red dazzlers". Scares the crap out of 'em as it looks like I just slammed on my brakes and they back way off.......ether that or they're blinded. Either way, same result!

The thing about using your fog lights is that it's illegal unless it's foggy. You can use your brakes whenever you want Twisted Evil

So true! But then it's illegal here to tailgate as well so hopefully they get them instead of me for flashing the rear fogs! Very Happy

That's true Dad, I hadn't thought of that.

I've sometimes adjusted my sideview mirrors so their lights reflect back in their windscreen. Twisted Evil
I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?
