Nurse, he's out of his bed again! Whistle
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

That'll be the same Catholic Church that helped Nazi war criminals escape or hid them from authorities, or locked up and abused unmarried mothers in Ireland in the Magdelan Laundaries, or the mass graves of children (Taum).

The last Magdalene Laundry in Ireland did not close until 1996

They are hardly the mark of a civilised society and are a stain on the history of Ireland.
It is even more of a stain on Ireland that they continued until a mere 25 years ago.

It was only about then that they admitted the Moon orbits the Earth and the Earth orbits the Sun. Shocked

Just for balance, the Magdalen (or Good Shephard or any of the other ones) Laundries did not drive around the country kidnapping young pregnant women and locking them up, stealing their children. These were laundries and workhouses that took in destitute and usually abondoned young girls who's own families - and the fathers of the unborn children - turned their backs on them. They then often found homes for the children. In many cases, the women and their children eventually went home, when the 'shame' had settled. Society was cruel to people in many ways.

It is easy to see the bad - and there was a heck of a lot of suffering and unfair punishment - but remember, these women were treated so badly in the first place by being put in these places by their family.

As for the catholic church, the bad things that went on (and are still going on no doubt) are unforgivable and against everything the church stands for. There has been cover ups, obstructions and so on.

BUT there has been so much good brought by the catholic church and other religions. Education, hospitals, nursing homes - so many started from within the church. The bad can never be undone but the good should never be forgotten.

I started by saying ' Just for balance' and I believe that is hugely important.
