D3 NAV display brightness

G'day all,

The NAV screen in my D3 is having backlight issues when it's cold (like < 12C; yes I know my *cold* is different to yours!). It lights up, but is very dim. Sometimes turning the screen off and on again using the settings menu brings it up, and sometimes it just needs to warm up. It is progressively getting worse.

My thoughts are either the CCFL tube is going, or electrolytic caps in the converter for the backlight.

Before I tear into the screen with a can of freeze spray and a soldering iron, I thought I'd ask if this was a known issue. Searching hasn't turned up much (or I'm naff at it, one of the two).

Sounds like a fairly typical symptom of a CCFL tube and age to me.

The D4 ones have LED's I believe. It's a fair bit of work to fit one of those though
