Gasket at oil pump base
Firstly the write ups by Flack and Disco Mikey have been amazing. I have removed the starter, belts oil and water pump. There is a gasket which is then covered with a bead of sealant. Does this need to be replace before applying the bead and installing the pump? Sorry if I am being dumb, I have been this for a couple of days and want to get it right!
Many thanks.

you can't change it because it is part of the (upper) sump gasket.
What you say is a bead of sealant, I think is part of the gasket
Anyway the only important bit is the round hole oil pick up. This needs to be air tight, but don't go adding too much sealant and getting it in the oil ways

Sorry guys.
I am new with D3. Probably buy one this week. Just a question about the pump.
Is it just the pump casing to be replaced or the whole pump unit.
Not clear to me.
The one i am looking at has 295.000 km so timing belt will be done but i want to know for pump.
Thanks guys

Just some more question. Sorry to bother you guys with maybe clear stuff.
Do you change oilpump every time when you change the timing belt. Been advised to do so by garage.
What are youre experiences on this
And what is the correct partnumber for the pump or are they all the modified types when you order a new one

Re: How to Change the Oil Pump casing

Guys just done this how to today located in my gallery..I have done this because of all the cam belt tensioners that have failed because of the oil pump casing breaking in this position.
Hi Flack I’m about to do this, so thank you for taking the time to write this up… one question I have is regards using sealant as the instructions on the advanced factors website show. I don’t think you mention this in your write up ? Is it needed ?
No its not needed, but if you want to use some then no problem, I always use grease and have done from the start.
Remember be careful fitting the crank seal.

Hi All, On the advanced factors instructions for tigtening the pump casing bolts it says to do the bottom 4 first to 10nm then the rest around the casing.
On the LR manual they advise doing the bottom 4 After the others.
Any reason either way is better than the other ?
Flack I think in your PDF you do the bottom 4 after as well...
What I do and found to be the best way for me was to tighten all the casing screws first starting with bottom left, then do the opposite top one and just keep doing the opposites I then put the two middle lower bolts in from the top and tighten them.
I then rebuild the front end and sfter running the car finish off the other two casing bolts and main cable support from under the car then refit the steel plate.

I did but found it better for me to do the procedure above after the first few dozen.

Prelube/prefilling. Is the allen-screw on top of the pump meant for that?
