This was my situation exactly. To keep her I'd have to have paid over market value. If I didn't have to change I'd wait for the 3.0. If you have to change, hand it back and get a 2nd hand D3 - either a cheap model so you can get the 3.0 sooner, or an HSE and wait another 2-3 years.Disco 5 HSE Lux

I put: get a secondhand HSE.
Drove a RRS with all the bits as a loaner for a few days, still prefer the D3, felt like I was back home when I got in. Was toying with the idea of voting: waiting for the 3.0 litre but you said you don't need it so I couldn't justify the money in your place.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Nothing wrong with it DG, don't put it out to pasture. The ol' girl deserves it I'm not so good at giving advice...may I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?
Go to the auctions, can probably get one even cheaper than they're going for on ebay The End

Who is the lease with? I'm in a similar situation to you - mine is due in November and I am toying with option 2 - buying a used HSE. But I had a call from Lex (or whatever they call themselves these days) and they offered me another year's full-maintenance lease on the existing SE at a much reduced rate. I think it was after I told them I was considering going down the buying-secondhand route. So now I can hold tight for the 3.0... maybe..
Could be worth asking - things are clearly as desperate in the car leasing market as everywhere else!

Rich you've confirmed my worst fears about the MGFV - I'm 5 months away from the same dilemma with an identical spec model to you with low'ish mileage (28K) - the £2K difference is a bummer but at least you know where yours has been and know whats been wrong with it and whats not - I've already worked out that if I keep mine, the improvement in monthly outgoings allow me to buy SWMBO a brand spanker replacement for the mighty Matiz...Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

Can you negotiate to pay real value ie. £14.5k rather than £16.8k. (This is all at max they would get anywhere else)?
If so, I would keep it - at £14.5k your own (and your FSH!) would be far better value than the £13k ex-Highways surely?
Then when the 3.0 comes ALTERNATIVES...............No alternatives for off-road capability.
If you want Surrey plush, go for a Range Rover. If you want Manchester bling it's the Range Rover Sport. But if it's a seven-seat, go anywhere 4x4, it's time to Disco.
