Changing front pads - MY12 |
|
Just reading this:
http://www.disco3.co.uk/wiki/Changing_Front_Brake_Pads
Is this for both the D3 and D4 (specifically MY12)?
Been told mine will need replacing in a few thousand miles, might give it a go myself, I'm no oily rag, but have done some stuff on other cars before. Looks like I have all tools required with exception of the 'Piston Retraction Tool' - having googled and seen a few youtube vids, looks like they come in a few shapes and sizes, would someone by able to give me a link to a suitable tool or a specif manufacturer etc?
Some other stuff I have read state torque values when putting it all back together, I have a TW, what should I be tightening the bolts to?
Any other gotchyas I may need to know about before hand, that you may have perhaps come across when doing this? MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

Yeah, it's the same. I followed the Bodsy Bible to change brakes on my MY12. I did pads and discs.
I just pushed back with a piece of wood and a large water pump spanner (don't know it's proper name) Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders

They are easy to do but remember to slacken the brake fluid reservoir and put rag around the top to catch any excess brake fluid that may be displaced when the pistons are pushed back. Also remember that brake fluid eats into paint work so do not get any on the paint and if you do clean/wash it off straight away. MY17 D5 1st Edition Namib Orange

Just looking to actually get this done now, as I am a few thousand miles down the road now.
Been looking at the AF site, look to be a couple of 'brands' of pads, any recommendations of one I should go for (TRW, Borg & Beck, Meyle & TRW DTEC Low Dust) - not too worried about the low dust option as the car is cleaned regularly so never worried about brake dust build up.
Also, the brake bible suggests that a few things come in the pack - springs and new caliper bolt. This isn't mentioned on the AF site, anyone know if you do get the extra bits in the 'box'? MY2012 D4 HSE Nara Bronze with some extra stuff

Only way you will have excess fluid is because some muppet has topped up the reservoir between pad changes

I did not need to do this, but no harm in undoing the cap, as it makes pushing the calliper pistons back easier Sill protection - LED internal lights - LED reverse lights - boot liner - Dog Guard - Rock sliders
