How to charge battery on a 2015 D4

Well after 3 weeks of lockdown and the decision for a full clean the low battery warning light came on. I have a battery charger but no ctek. Is the procedure as follows turn off everything. Open bonnet, leave car unlocked (in garage) have a coffee and leave keys near the kettle.. Go back down remove negative first then positive. Take it out and put it on the charger. I will probably leave it out for one week - it’s a smart charger so it says on the box. Reinstall - positive first, negative after. Shut bonnet. Start car.... does that sound right?

So my smart charger has a permanent option - it’s not a ctek it’s a noco genius g1100. I can see where the earth strap attaches behind the fuse box but how on earth do you get access? Also looking at the battery terminals I have never seen anything so complicated (excuse my amateurism) I just undo the nut closest to the terminal?

So I imagine to access the earth attachment I have to remove the battery?

The charger does have crocodile clips too but it also states the negative to be attached to an earth point... is there another I could use if I just do the crocodile clip way?

Thanks for your patience

I charge my battery whilst in the car using the following procedureusing my CTEK, but no reason to think this wouldn't work for your battery charger:
1. Connect + lead to + terminal on battery.
2. Connect - lead to an earthed point on the car, there are a number of unused small bolt studs around the bonnet that can be used. When the battery is left in the car connected you shouldn't use the - terminal on the battery. Remember the - terminal is earthed to the metalwork of the car.
3. Plug in battery charger to mains , selecting AGM if you have an AGM battery (charges at higher amps)

Reverse procedure when charged - ie Disconnect mains plug, followed by removing - lead then + lead.

Good luck
Cheers

So just to state what I inferred, no need to remove the battery. Many others use the tow socket to charge if you have one and the right connector, but if not this procedure should work. If you get stuck I'll take a picture of the location of the small bolt I use for my - connection during daylight tomorrow. Let me know if this would help you.
Cheers

Done it... I removed the top engine cover and tucked under the wiper panel I spotted an earth... so all plugged and charging using the crocodile clips... let’s see when it’s charged and I start it up Smile

Ok good. Keep us posted.
The stud I use is just in front of the main battery box ( nearer to the front of the car) on the side of the of the bonnet space. Will try to attach photo here for future ref.

Well done. Don't recognise that engine bay as a 2015 at all.

If you have towing electrics fitted you can make or buy a connector to charge through the tow socket.
You can buy them in the shop.

I bought the tow bar adapter for the battery charger. Very very practical.
