Charging phone with wireless magnetic phone holder, from USB

Evening folks. As title says, am trying to charge my mobile using a USB’s charger, happens to be a magnetic one for the iPhone. Works fine in my d3

I’m the d4 it lights up when car starts but then refuses to charge.

Any helps appreciated Smile

Please please don’t tell me it won’t work as I am still getting over the lack of:
Adaptive headlights
Rear FMH lights
Cornering lights

Thanks
Paul

A cable-less phone holder 'consumes' a lot of the charge being sent to it. I suspect that the amperege being pumped out from the USB port isn't enough to overcome the consumption of the cable-less charger.

These are all optional extras, even on an HSE Very Happy

Didn’t realise the D3 had usb as standard!

I noticed that even to charge phone directly with cable, at this time I am not bothered. But thinking about it do you have to select the port within the computer menu I expect you have to do this to play stuff off a stick ? Or am I just talking rubbish Embarassed

Thanks. Got stuff working / streaming no problems. I’m fairness the adapter fires up for a few moments and then it decides not to charge

Maybe I’ll multimeter it

You could also buy a plug in adapter for the lighter socket, some like mine are twin output, will charge an
IPad and phone at the same time with built in temperature and amp meter, all for less than a tenner. Thumbs Up
ps. Del will be along shortly to show you his set up Laughing

Cheers. Will have a look. Was a fan of having it plugged in the glove box as the only wire showing was between gloves box and vent mount.

The charger I am referring to will only charge, not stream. I use the one in the glove box for streaming including mp4 etc video Thumbs Up

Thanks, I’ve got the streaming taken care of via Bluetooth, just used the usb as it was the most useful power source

The glove box usb can also be used for uploading POI’s, speed cams etc to the satnav, very useful mod. Thumbs Up

The USB port (and the iPod port) in my D4 seems to be very low current and at best keeps my iPhone topped up but would struggle to charge it from empty.

Have you tried it in a ciggy lighter socket instead with a decent 2.1A or more USB charger? (Edit\; As M3DPO suggests above Embarassed )

That looks like what I’ll have to do. Thanks for all the suggestions. So my d3 could but my d4 can’t. Another one for the list lol

Many thanks
