Chasis/ground stud under centre console? |
|
Hi all,
just a quick question, which bolts are earthed amongst the electronics under the centre console? Would the bolts that hold the gear selector (auto) be grounded?
Would there be harm/malfunction/not best practice to join a separate earth wire to the the normal one (for example the power box in the FL2 headrest kit)?
Lastly but similarly, if there is a permanent +ve and a switched +ve on a device, assuming one does not care about the current draw, presumably these two can be fed from the same +ve feed?
TIA!

Any bolt that goes into the chassis/body shell will be earthed back to the battery.
If you put both the + perm and +switched onto a perm +, it will run all the time with the ign off. If you put them both on to a switched +, then you won't store any information when the ign is switched off HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE

Cheers Mark
I take it then any of the four bolts holding the auto gear selector are grounded and could be used? Any harm joining a separate earth to the "normal" earth? (e.g. the power box of the kit has a +ve and earth together in the main power wiring and a second, separate earth)
Re: the +ve, yes that was my understanding o thanks for confirming

You could use an earth stud that is already in use but you would have to be careful not to overload the earthing point.
I was always told to remember that the power cable is big for a reason and the earth cable should match, within reason. Perhaps I've been misinformed but it's the way I've done any wiring on my trucks.
If the bolts you want to use screw directly into the chassis then it sounds like a plan HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE
