I mean, apart from the sudden detachment of the seatbelt anchor point in the event of a collision, who's to know?
 I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Apart from that, yes! I think Uncle Ray’s rock sliders do more for side impact protection than the sills, even before they start rusting!

......the phrase "safety cell" has even been used in my conversations thus far........

I did not know my Discovery had a Safety Cell but it does!!
 end of an era ....... maybe a Defender when it appears.......

Yes it does. It’s a pretty strong bodyshell. Under Ford LR had access to Volvo’s tech and there are lots of things like high strength boron steel reinforcing the windscreen pillars that were innovative at the time.

Wow, this is quite a scary topic.

If I take my side steps off to inspect/clean/protect, does the plastic cover come off just by pulling? And are the fixing re-usable, or are they prone to breaking when you remove the trim?
