Flourescent Oil on replacement engine

The oil you drained out contained uv dye so you can check for leaks - well that was the case when I had mine changed. Thumbs Up

I can concur that the oil in virtually all new engines has UV dye in it, so that the operator that performs the hot test can easily find any leaks using a UV light. The oil meets OE spec in all regards and the dye has no detriment to it.

Evening Adrian

The tyres are superb for our work purposes - we have yet to get stuck despite some VERY challenging conditions. However, they are significantly more noisy than the BFG ATs that I usually run - I bought the MT's as a set via the forum for a similar price to one of the ATs which is why I am running them. I find that on long trips (eg coming back from Cornwall) I tend to turn up the stereo a little but the ears susally stop ringing in about a day or so!

They do feel less well placed on the road than some of my other tyres, but still OK if you don't push too hard (everything is a compromise). I have covered about 7k miles since writing this post (ie in past 2 months) and they have managed fine in very wet/snowy/cold conditions. However, I'm looking forward to being able to put my winter tyres back on in Mid January once we have finished the two contracts we are on at present.

I'll be running a set of ATs during the summer again, and will then be putting the MTs back on in September for about 5 months. Histiorically I have changed the ATs at ariound 50k (with mileage left in them), and based on current wear rates would see the MTs lasting even better than this.

In short, no complaints - especially given what I paid for them, but they are not for everyone.

The following pictures were taken on our way out of a site in which a 15t 360 excavator had got stuck earlier in the day. We were fully loaded up at just under 4 tonnes and managed to get out without assistance, albeit a bit 'squeaky bum'.

Waterbuoy Brilliant write up and post. Thumbs Up

Will have to look at some MTs starting to struggle on site now with the digger on the trailer. I just have road tyres so it is doing well but couldn't pull a loaded trailer out the other day.

Holy thread resurrection........prompted by both lockdown, recent service and some recent threads on chassis protection etc

OK, two and a half years on - was all of that worth it?

My annual mileage has dropped dramatically so, at present, the car is just shy of 240k meaning that there has been just 60k or so added since the replacement engine was fitted. In that time I have had one ABS sensor fail (last week), one drag link replaced and a rear hub. Nothing else other than routine servicing, brakes and tyres.

The Dinitrol seems to be holding up very well - so much so that the MOT examiner last year commented on it. Main rust is on the underside of the chassis (which was not treated at the time) and some of the 'bolt on' components - ie basic metal is sound. This is quite remarkable as the car lives within 25 metres of the sea here on the west coast (when at home).

Given the use that the car is put to the decision to spend £7k on replacing the engine, complete refurb of the suspension and brake system etc plus protecting the chassis seems to have paid dividends - the car is costing less by way of running repairs and servicing than SWMBO's D4 even though that does far lower mileage (currently on 102k). Its residual value is next to nothing so I will probably stick with it for a while yet.

Piccies of chassis 'as is' follow below - no apologies for mud and crud, this is a working car!

Chassis side rail:

Front wishbones - these were replaced and appear to be more corroded than the rest of the chassis:

Rear suspension mounts showing general crud and superficial rust. By way of comparison all the struts were replaced at the same time as the work was done:
