Check my mpg calculations
Hi everyone
Im after 2nd opinion on my calculations
On £20.00 of diesel (15.16litre i paid at £1.32 per litre)
Im getting 51.5 miles
So heres my sums
51.5 divide by 15.16 =3.39 miles per litre
3.39miles x 4.5 litres(1 gallon)= 15.2 MPG
Is my calculations right?
Thanks in advance

Basically, yep. Check for binding brakes or EPB would be your first port of call.

What sort of driving? Short cold trips or motorway driving at, say 70mph?

It's not good. Perhaps if you've been towing a 3 tonne trailer at 70mph, you might expect 15mpg!
You should be seeing 25+ for normal driving.Richard

Shorts trips mainly stop starting, but just looked at rear alloys and they are covered in black brake dust more than fronts so like you say could be binding brakes?
And tonight going through mcdonalds drive through with window open thought i heard a bit squelling
Is that a sign of binding, just im not very mechanically minded

Check carefully for hot wheels after driving, that’ll tell you if that’s what’s going on. 15mpg could be “normal” if very short, cold trips but even then I’d expect 18 - 19mpg or so.

Just renewed my rear brakes and my mpg has went from around 24 mpg to around 28 mpg that's on short trips around 7 miles to work that's town and m/way at the weekends it's dropping to around 25 mpg around the doors . Mines a Manuel so I would expect to lose a couple of miles per gallon on an auto All transmission oil replaced
3 flash indicators
All timing belts changed
EPB serviced

Manuals are a few mpg better than autos. Just beware of the trip comp figures, they generally overread by 2 - 5mpg.
