had my car go in for a compressor ( under warranty). They charged me extra as the job took longer then what LR would pay for because they say there was crust on the bolts and they were ceased!!!!!
What a joke - They would not release the car until I paid ( this was an independent as Hunters closed).
Anyone had this experience? They now say to wash the engine with a hose pipe ( the thing was no way that dirty) and do not use high pressure due to the electrics inside the wheel arches!!!!!
As you can imagine I am not happy and furious.
Any comments on how to clean it?
Rant over!!!!!

Sorry to hear this. I think they're having a laugh, I've had the lower ball joints replaced under warranty, and it took twice as long as they expected because they'd ceased, but no charge, that was at a LR dealers. You need to find a new garage. Fews aren't that far from Bristol and I think that's who DiscoDunc uses. LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

...just so you know... I'm pretty confident a dealer can't hold your car without your permission, even if you've not paid a bill. Granted it's difficult if the wheels are off and it's in the air, but if it's parked round the back, you can demand it back 2020 SDV6 D5 HSE, Carpathian Grey +

John C,
I'm with you on that point. Not paying a bill is a civil courts matter where as theft of a motor vehicle is a criminal offence and reporting it to the police should get the car released. Although this is a ploy that has been used for years by garages.

Garages can hold your vehicle until payment is received. I've known of this to happen and the rozzers get involved and they usually favour the garage. I think most garages have this under there T&C's when you sign off on them working on your car.
What are they asking you to clean? Using a hose on the engine on widespray rather than jet is fine. Using a pressure washer in the engine bay is also fine if you use a bit common sense.
Surely they would have quoted for the job and should not be your look out if they cannot do it in the allocated time for the repair due to seized bolts

Gents
If I might put my legal hat on for a moment there is clear case law on this R V Turner 1971.
You can be convicted of theft of your own property in these circumstances...and upheld by the Appeal court.
Only answer is to pay repair costs to gain your property and then deal by civil means.
I can quote chapter and verse if you really want it...

Hello! I would certainly change who does my work! I use MJ Fews and have done for a couple of years. Can't fault them and always get a loan car, even if it is a fiesta!*#? Too many older Land Rovers to mention

Sounds like they will be getting your money just the once then - rather than a nice long term relationship . . .

Well,
I was surprised that i had to pay for anything as it was being done under warranty and you are correct in saying that this was never quoted to me only I assume the warranty people.
I really did not want to name and shame but it is the only independent in Brislington, Bristol!!!!!!!
As i said they say it is due to the 'off roading' it gets!!!!!!!!
I use them because they are 15 minutes away - although they have run over time twice now and left me in the lurch without a car.
Looks I will have to go to MJFews or Yoevil.
Miles away!!!!!

I am assuming it is an aftermrket warranty?
Make a claim on the warranty company for the difference you were charged. It probably won't work but will get them to ask questions of the dealer.

Sounds like a load of to me. If they are doing work under warranty and the work involves removing some bolts, then this should be accounted for regardless of how dirty they are. I bet if they came off easily and they finished quicker than expected you wouldn't be getting any money back! D3 HSE MY05 Auto

What a shower!
My dealer not only tested the car without charge when I had concerns about tracking (no fault found), they had washed it by the time I came to pick it up! Yeovil LR Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

There is an independent at Frampton Mansell, between Stroud and Cirencester.
I have not used them, has anybody else?
