Clock & TV Upgrade

I went into my local LR dealer today to see if I could upgrade the systems on my 06 MY Metropolis (oh how I hate that name!) to reflect the 07 MY clock in the dash centre and TV..... they said it cant be done. Big Cry

Has anyone else enquired and got a different answer?

I thought the TV upgrade will be available to all previous models. Maybe the parts are not yet available and this is the reason why you got that response from your dealer.

No official word on the clock upgrade, but I can't see why they cannot add this with a software upgrade in the future.

Don't forget that "can't be done" can also be translated as "I don't know" or "I can't be bothered finding out" or "I'm too busy right now waiting for the kettle to boil"

clock pics are in my gallery.
When I was considering the move to a 2007 model, I asked the dealer about being able to change my 06 model to include the new bits on 07 such as clock, tv, 1 touch indicators but he said that some parts would be impossible and others like the TV could be done but it would be around £900.

you also have consider Land Rover marketing strategy. They may not permit updates to older vehicles, because ultimately they want you to buy a new one in 3 years time. These new features are not the same as other 'updates' which are really bug fixes.

on the other hand, some intend to be long term owners like me and they could make a few easy bucks from us (me) who currently dont think that the new model is worth the upgrade

From my point of view, all the gadgets are nice to haves.
The engine is worth the upgrade, so much quieter.

I would like to know what the engine differences are. Maybe just more sound insulation.

Huhh - you mentioned that the engine is much quieter. Were there any design changes on the TDV6 or added some more damping material Question My MY06 is considered as "very quiet" with the usual Diesel-noise on the low and high end of RPM range...

I dont know what they have done but my 06 model had done 6000 miles. Even my wife has commented how much more quiet the new car is.

CW, good point, mine goes in for 60k service in a couple of weeks, I will ask if they can give me the clock in the dash, and offer to pay for it. Lets see what happens!

Not just those that want to hang on their D3, but there's a lively nearly new market out there. Don't Stealers make more money on a used car than new in some instances as well as the aftermarket stuff like accessories, servicing, repairs and I would hope upgrades?

I'd guess that commercially, if it is possible they'll do it, but like my Stealer says, often with things like the TV and software (clock), it depends on demand.

If there's a profitable opportunity, I'm sure they'll jump. E.g., don't they charge half hour labour to activate the lights and another for the tow bar? Thud

Who posted recently that the dealer wanted £140 labour to put on a set of 4 mudflaps and the stick-on side strips to a new car prior to hand-over? That really does their servicing reputation no favours.
