Used to go through quite regularly on my way see my brother (only had the Lightweight at that time), In summer it tends to be very shallow and any car would cope, but it doesn't take too much water before you feel a push Exclamation

I've driven this a couple of times when I was down in the area for a stag weekend a few years ago. An excellent ford. Seems a sensible compromise by the highways agency to close during winter.

Cheers.

This ford is about a 1/4 of a mile from my house and I cross it every weekend. From the photo in the article, the stones marking the ford edge are just covered by water, which means its just about passable in my Defender, but never in a million years for a car.

Loads of people have got stuck here, but its blatantly obvious when you would be risking life and limb. Any muppet in a car who attempts to cross when the river is like this should get a driving ban, especially as its only a short diversion to go around. Right, i'll get off the soap box now...

But I would say that when the river is just a touch lower than this, its great fun in the right vehicle. I'll be gutted if they close it.

DiscoDad , you seem a little perturbed at the thought of a lifted Jimny.

The Jimny is our offroad toy. As well as the Procomp lift it's running on Atacama Sport tyres (a diamond pattern) which probably lifted it a further inch and has a steel front bumper and bash plate from KAP Suzuki. We've just taken delivery of a TJM snorkel which should be fitted soon. There's a couple of shots of it in action at an RTV with SORC last year in this gallery -

If the Jimny is as good as the old SJ's off-road, then it will be very capable, as well as great fun. The SJ's lightness meant that it could sometimes go places that Defenders couldn't.

I've finally got round to setting up a gallery and have added a few shots of the Jimny in action during an RTV.

LT - It's probably just as if not more capable than the SJ's , the power steering making it easier to manoeuvre. As you say the lightweight can be an advantage over LR and other heavy 4x4's in events , but it really depends on how the course is set out. SORC try to make their RTV & TYRO courses equal for all makes. The last RTV ended with a Jimny in first and second positions. No wonder we're referred to as " Censored Suzuki drivers !"

Cheers.
