Collecting our 1st D3 tomorrow V8 HSE

I bought a D3 V8 HSE over a week ago, it needed a bit of work so I had it done by a local LR specialist near to where I bought the truck. Its had a new thermostat housing all pretty simple. However whilst it was in the garage the front suspension went down. This was due to someone replacing the air pipe and not securing it properly and so it went on the exhaust !!

Its all done now so fingers crossed it will be ok.

Hoping to take it to the Malvern Land Rover show on Saturday if the wife lets me use it as it is hers !!

Pics soon.

Let the mods begin !!

Good Call on the V8.
Have them clean the throttle body, and do a BG induct cleaning. Check that the cowl is not warped by the Pollen air filter duct. Check for sunroof drains leaking. Replace coolant T plastic breather pipe.

Well it didn't go quite to plan.

LR garage had replaced thermostat housing and repaired front airbag pipe but it still had a misfire. Drove off got to main road and tried to go up a big hill, engine management light came on and it went into limp mode .. great .. stopped turned it off and back on again, still misfiring but moving.

Got to a fuel station and put some much needed go go juice in the truck and some water in me. While I was sat there, I just thought I would flick it over to LPG, wow much better no more misfire..

Got to Bournemouth with no further issues and it drove great.

Decided to give the interior a good clean out in the afternoon, much better.

This morning we go to come home, get in truck, turn on ignition and I get the "Christmas tree" effect and it doesn't start. A quick search of this forum concludes battery voltage low. Grab a charger and leave it for 30 minutes, try again and bingo.. phew..

Go to reverse it off the drive and then there was a loud phewsh fron front near side.. susp drops.. looks like the pipe that the garage was supposed to of repaired had gone again.

Abandoned truck on in laws drive and drove home in the Golf R... mechanic is going to look at it and also the missing on number 8, and MOT it too.

Not the start of ownership I was looking for.

Trollman, I bought a V8 with similar issues. Check battery light and EML and Suspension light were on at time of purchase. Loss of power, misfires, Christmas tree effect, limp mode etc...then I joined this forum, did lots of reading and got encouraged to start fixing it. Not done yet but will keep in going.

Step by step yours will get done too.
If you get some time, do post how items were resolved.
Welcome to the V8 club.

Ack clean the throttle body. Can you explain what you mean by the cowl and air filter duct? I'm prob being dense but what's the BG induct? Lastly, why change the coolant breather T if the original isn't leaking?

And on all V8s I'd suggest adding a can of BG44k to the fuel tank (not sure if that would affect LPG though).

I did my coolant T pipe today, old one snapped as I was trying to remove it as it was so brittle. Should be good for another few years now Smile

Got any pics of the T piece in question? Not sure I want to open up the water system again as it was a nightmare to bleed !!

Will be doing the throttle body once I get it home.
