Commercail Floor Modification!!
Hi all,
Got myself a three ton trolley jack over xmas as a present to the disco as i recently got two punctures and found that the jack supplied is not worth a S£*t! as i have a commercail i was thinking of cutting out the floor to make a compartment for the jack for storage, mainly because:
1: its safer in event of accident, not just lying in back. (be stowed/locked in false floor)
2: out of sight of any pikeys that might be in the market for a trolley jack.
iv seen a thread before where some body modified the false floor for extra compartment space but cant find it. can some post a link.
Have a look in his gallery - he has a very impresive comercial15 3.0 RRS HSE - Silver

do you mind me askin tanters, did you lift off the carpet material first and then make the cuts out in the floor! From looking at pictures it seems you glued the carpet back on afterwards to fit around the cut out's, am i right in saying. looks tidy.. last thing, what did you use to cut the sheet metal floor? thanks

Ian, I removed the old carpet off the 'box' altogether and and replaced it with new stuff. Before I chucked it thogh I used it as a template to cut out the required shape for the new stuff.
When you remove the carpet you should see rivets in the top of it - on mine there were 3 support bars running from front of the car direction to the back. Leaving the one in the middle, I drilled out the rivets in the side two and thenI marked out the sizes of the holes I wanted and drilled a pilot hole in one of the corners and used a jigsaw to cut them out. Made a hell of a racket so find somewhere away from the neighbours to do it.
Where the box starts to curve (where the 2nd row seat backs would be) there is a steel support bar running the width of the car and thats what the hinges for the doors are bolted into.
If you cut open one of your holes part ways and bend it back you'll be able to have a look inside and see what I'm talking about.
I got the new carpet from NVD and used Impact to band it on after scrapping away the remnants of the old stuff.
ChrisTyler removed the box altogether and dropped a new floor in using a wooden construction. Nice job but alot more work than this way I'd guess.A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

cheers tanters, that's great advice!! ill take a look at it the weekend and see then about possibly tackling the job in the next weekend or two then! the pictures are great help too.
Was thinking of perhaps putting in something like yours but below in the compartment itself box it out using ply! chris tylers is tidy but wouldn be that experienced to tackle something like that.
ill keep ya posted of developments, slow and all as they may be!

Hold off buying the ply til you have a look inside. If you flattened it out in there to its highest point, you'll make it quiet shallow. You'll know what I mean when you open it up.
Good luck and give a shout if you need any advice A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.
