Commercial conversion to 7 seats

I'm looking for anyone with experience of converting a commercial (purchased new already converted) back into a seven seater.

Putting the Tax man aside for a moment I just want to know about the technicals, as I've a fair understanding of what's involved when they convert from the original 7 seater (seats removed, welded holes, plated glass, seat belts etc).

I read a while back that someone actually did this and posted photo's etc, but I can't seem to find the "thread"

Any pointers or information would be very helpfull indeed.

No experience with the D3 on this but I did convert a commercial D2 to 5 seater once and it was no sweat at all. All original fixtures were hidden below the "cargo"plate. Prety straight forward job. Then had Carglass remove the ployester panels and fit the original glass. Can't imagine this to be any different from the D3 as LR doesn't run a seperate production line for a comm version.

Actually a D2 was produced as 5 seater and then brought to a conversion company who made it a commercial version.

Did you get all missing parts with the car? Seats, seatbelts, windows, etc.?

Welcome to the site Scarab Thumbs Up

Dont know alot about the conversions back to pass. spec. Few lads in UK have done it alright. I guess you're looking at having to install airbags etc. Some job to get all that commercial Censored out aswell so put aside plenty of time Whistle

Have you used the search function above?

The conversions in Ireland are done by NVD and they just use loads and loads if mastick Rolling Eyes .

I've had the big box open on mine and all the bolt holes are there for the seats etc so you should be able to fit them. ChrisT & Marcon removed theirs altogether so they'd be able to tell you if any of the holes have been welded up or not.

Conversion

It does seem a lengthy process but worth doing, cobcidering the market has droped out of the connercials and prices are Censored .

My main concern are the windows, but looks like I'll have to replace the rear door ones as well as the rear quarter's, then have a specialist re-fit.

Not worried about the "big box" as it's only aluminium, just have to see if the rear seat mounts are welded up or full of "goo".

What's the story with the air bags, are there any in the rear seats or surrounding area?

????

with the windows on mine they were painted black - although on later comm models I've noticed there are npt - then there was a metal plate masticked to the frames and then carpet put over the plate. Some plates are riveted on.

its a real pain to remove but worth it in the end. The glass is there so I dont see why you'd need to replace them? its just a pain to free them up.

Re seats, you can start by taking out the tray for the jack etc and under there you should be able to see the bolt holes for the 3rd row of seats.

Re the air bags - those cars imported to be converted to commercial are usually base 5 seater cars so you wont have airbags in the c pillar. not too sure about the rest past the front setas.
