Common Faults or am I just unlucky?! |
|
Hi all,
Have been a Disco3 owner (ex Demo) since May this year and (after perusing these pages and worrying myself sick ) I took the plunge and have to say it's been a pleasure to drive..
However, quite a few niggly problems have occurred and seem to persist.
1. Fancy dash phone button pad thingy but no bluetooth! - Dealer says can have LR approved kit at £800 + a further £800 labour (are they serious!!?) or Parrot kit at £250 + labour. Decided I don't need the phone THAT badly so opted for neither - but would be interested in anyone's view on the parrot kit (VFM?)
2. Alarm would go off as if door was unlocked
3. Only rear fogs would activate. Dealer told me it would take two days to fix possibly three if it was a trapped wire also that luckily it's not foggy that often (doh!) - I thought it was probably a fuse so didn't immediately return.
4. Fuel Filler flap failed to open when at garage. First time this happened the dealer told me that I could of course use the emergency access to disengage - I refused to do this ( boot chockablock) and returned to dealer.
Told them to keep it until they fixed the Door Alarm / Fog Lights and Fuel Filler Flap.
After two days, Good news the Dealer says we have downloaded a firmware upgrade to the EMS and this has fixed the Fuel filler flap issue which was also connected to the door alarm problem and that the filler flap was not closed which is why the alarm activated ( hmm..). Also the fog light issue was a fuse which we have replaced. Offered me a massive discount on the Parrot kit - which I pointed out was the same price quoted when I first took ownership!
Got it home - Alarm beeps on locking..
5. Few long journeys later the Console warms of low coolant level - but temperatures ok.. describe fault to dealer who sells me some coolant.. Not satisfied, I asked for someone to take a look at which point I am told that I don't need to add any coolant and in fact there have been recurring issues with the sensor unit which could be replaced under warranty - "still Chap - it's always useful to have some coolant". This is still occurring and I won't get it fixed until the service.
6. Driving on M4 in thick fog - only rear fogs again.. (good thing it doesn't get foggy very often!)
7. Packed up about to leave on holiday - when at the garage the fuel filler flap fails to open again.. Dealer not helpful, ring Land Rover Assist. Apparently by locking the car twice, then unlocking it whilst applying firm pressure to the flap it should open -- It did!
8. Is it me but aren't mud flaps supposed to direct water away from the car? In the great British summer every time I go through any deepish water at the edge of the carriageway the water is directed right across the windscreen obscuring vision (is this an undocumented feature?! - given that I'm not off-roading)
9. Lastly - not an issue - but I'm thinking of putting some chevrons / Highway Maintenance on the back for work - any experiences of this? Easy to remove? Will it affect the resale price?
PS: Had a Rover 75 ( yes, yes I know, pipe and slippers!) did over 200k in 5 years and only had 1 problem with it (airflow meter) - fairly disappointed therefore to spend twice as much and have had so many issues in 5 months.
Any thoughts or comments for this newbie's sanity welcomed. A single conversation with a wise man is better than ten years of study.

Welcome
You sound to be a bit unlucky with all those problems , I cant advise on all but the fog light one sounds familiar. There is a know problem with Front fogs where the wires have rubbed causing the fuse to blow. have you checked the fuse. there is a TSB for it but i cant find the thread at the moment.
EDIT
next Bristol meet : http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic23105.html
perhaps we can help over a beer or two Duncan

I would change my dealer ....they quite obviously don't seem interested \ know what they are doing. All these points are resolvable. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

My Dealers are Hunters, Fishponds - some genuinely helpful staff but just get the feeling that now they've sold to me, everything else is secondary. A single conversation with a wise man is better than ten years of study.

Try MJ Fews, they have always been good, especially when armed with info from disco3.co.uk ,
give Neil or Andy a call in service Duncan

Dear, dear DG,
It was never for fun. But one does have to keep one's eye in.

Rockman, I think TBH that you've just been unlucky with the dealer being a .
Most of yoru frustrations (and most peoples!) are not due to the faults, they're due to the service that has been offered (or not!) by the dealer who it sounds like hasn't looked at the issues very closely at all.
Change of dealer on the cards I think. Bodsys Brake Bible

I remember being in a cafe bar in Alice when an indigenous fellow came in sniffing a can of petrol ...I was praying like that he didn't order a Sambuca 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Yeah,
Those guys really screw their brains doing that.
A few years ago there was a committee investigating certain aspects of Aboriginal life. One kid, who was probably about 13yo, showed up with a can of petrol hidden beneath his top, while he sat through the hearing. That was heart-rending.
Best Wishes,
Peter
