Looking at all the cars going by on the A66 today D3 is still the best looking. So ...Get a D4 take it off road get it really mudded up and scratched. Nobody will know its a new D4 ....Except for you, whilst you sit in the perceived quality seats and look proudly, via the surround cameras at the mess you've made of it

It must be said. It is a compelling vision.
The D3's a hard act to follow. I take people's points about replacing/repainting wheel arches. It's not as daft as it sounds.

Slightly but looking at the LR website today, it seems that the D1, D2 & D3 have different codes, but the D4 shares the D3 code "LA". Am I missing something here?

The jeep wrangler rubicon long wheel base, (assuming it is available in your neck of the woods) is an excellent machine. Please note, just answering the question as asked!!! wrangler will go anywhere a D4 will go, not exactly great machine for around town though. Turning circle, comfort etc, nowhere near.<*(((<<

I have considered the d3 versus the land cruiser for many months. On paper the d3 is a better vehicle, but reliability issues let it down.
As a result I have just ordered a land cruiser invincible. In three years time I may consider the D4, depending on reliability.

That's the Prado, afaik, and there's a new one coming out in a few months. The only Landcruiser to compete with the D3 is the more expensive 200-series.
The D3 drives better than that too.

I am sort of considering options as well.
WHen I bought my 9m old TDV6 HSE my plan was to keep the D3 until the wwarranty runs out and then get a 3.0 TDV6 HSE (which I now know will be called D4) that is <1 yr old.
I am now thinking if the sh!%#y EPB is the same on the D4 as the D3 then I might look elsewhere which is a bit disappointing because I am a Land-Rover man through and through. The fleet until a few weeks ago consisted of a 1961 S2, 1920 S2A, 1987 110 Tdi CSW and the D3 (the two oldest have just found new homes).
So, I have looked at the Q7 (cramped on the inside and too gangsta on the outside) and the GL Merc.
Can't find a GL to look at. Went to dealer in Bradford who looked in their group (which covers a fair chunk of the north of England with the notable exception of Manchester) and they have none.
I have also emailed Zeus engineering to suggest they may want to look at engineering an EPB that actually works and doesn't need attention between services...
Anyone know for sure if the D4 EPB is unchanged or did they focus mainly on farting about with chrome trim than actually fixing known deficiencies?

Last time I looked there were only about 4 GLs in Merc dealerships in the whole country, including second hand stock. According to salesman I spoke to, the dealers fell out with Merc a few months ago over new car ordering and they all seemed to hold off. They were probably scared to order them when the economy was looking really bad and people were'nt buying big/expensive cars.

Someone reported a new backing plate which gives hope of keeping some of the dirt out.
