I store my compressor behind the 2nd row seats and under the 3rd row, in the 3rd row foot well. To get to it I just fold passenger seat forward. There is quite a bit of space there. My compressor is not quite as big as Doc's but it works reasonably well.

That sounds like a good hiding place for a few things that come to mind Whistle

A bottle of the Macallan (suitably protected) fits nice and snug behind the middle seat. Whistle

Ok, bracket is out. Spoke to Bobby at FR Friday, he agreed to replicate it for us. Will post more details of cost etc once he has seen it

Here are some pics:

Its rough and ready (but it worked for quite a while now, and show no stress) made from what I had lying around the workshop, which just happened to be ally. I can't weld ally so I had to rivet it. A lot. Hopefully Bobby will make it pretty out of stainless Smile

I don't mind if they copy it and sell it - I might try and insist it is called a "Baben Bracket" though Rolling with laughter

any compressor should fit as long as it is no more than 180mm high and 250mm long at the bottom.

Bobby reckons they are making progress but he was away last week. Will make a few small changes to make the bracket more universal. More once I see the proto with my own eyes

Deon, I used the bushranger "max air" 72lpm unit.
AFAIK you can still buy these from Makro and most 4x4 shops for less than R1k.

Like I said before - "Any compresor will fit as long as it is no more than 180mm high and 250mm long at the bottom"

Spotted a letter in the latest SA4x4 on this subject. A concern was expressed that the heat in the engin compartment would damage/destroy the compressor? So make sure that a robust compressor is installed.

Well it gets hot as all hell regardless if you run it for an hour whilst pumping up tyres for 3 vehicles Smile

mine has been installed in the engine bay for about 6 months I think. So far no trouble, and its been abused.
The heat inside the engine bay in general is not the big issue. I reckon the radiated heat from the turbo might be a long term problem. I considered additional heat shielding, but because I used a 4 year old compressor to start with, I wasn't concerned, plus I want to see how long it lasts. I reckon if mine goes a full year it's forever

PS are you sure you are not DeonDef in disguise? Smile Rolling with laughter

I Censored hope not Laughing

Fitting compressors in the engin bay seems to be common practise. ARB compressors are located in the engin bay when fitting air lockers on vehicles. So it can be done. As soon as the Baben bracket is available, I will be relocating my compressor to the engin bay. I may however consider heat shielding as a protection measure seeing that in my nick of the woods finding a replacement compressor will be problematic.

So, when will the Baben bracket be commercially available?

Hi guys

Excuse my dumb question, what is the idea behind mounting the compressor in the engine bay?
Is it to save space in vehicle, or is the compressor permanently connected to the battery to save hassle connecting it when required for use?

Thanks
