Compressor - Need one pronto!
Hi All
Long time no see.
I have a problem (again).
My compressor has given up after being replaced under manufacturers warranty last May. My LR warranty has expired at the end of June and I took out a Tesco (Finest) warranty just in case.
Then last Wednesday evening the dreaded "suspension fault" reared it's ugly head. Damn!
Called Tesco who said take it to a garage to have them call Tesco. My local garage couldn't help so took it to Dunton LR, who kept the car overnight to diagnose the problem. (They must employ elves)
The following day I had a call to say the compressor had died and Tesco wanted to send someone down to authorise the repair. My service book hadn't been stamped by my local garage so I had to send my receipts for the services by fax to Dunton so the visiting engineer could authorise.
I had read in the Tesco warranty that I was entitled to a hire car up to the value of £40 incl vat/day after the first 24 hrs. I called Tesco just to confirm but was told they would only cover me for the period of repair and not during authorisation and not during any parts delay. Essentially the repair was a 2.7hr job so they would only give me one days hire.
Then of course the compressor is on back order and they can't give me a date when it will be available.
Are there any dealerships out there with a compressor?
Can anyone help to get one?
I am off to Dineyland Paris on 27/10 and am loaded with 6 passengers so really need it back before then. I must admit, having had to wait for one previously I'm nervous this could cause all kinds of heartbreak for the kids.
As ever your help is much appreciated.

I would think Dunton would want a new LR part to offer any kind of guarantee on the job.
It may come down to S/H if the time runs out.
Cheers for the pointer.

Well I just bought a new compressor from Nick at Yeovil at what seems a very good price (Bless him) and he's shipping it overnight to Dunton. Huge result as Dunton hadn't responded to my 6 calls.
I've spoken with Tesco warranties who are happy to compensate me for the cost of the part and the postage.
Well done to the hero's at Disco3.co.uk for their help/direction and I should have just called Nick in the first place.

Collected my D3 this morning all sorted. Dunton had the hump a bit because they didn't get to put their margin on the part. Never mind.
Amazing how I felt so high again after driving "normal" cars for the last few days.
Thanks again for everyones help.

My compressor developed a fault a week and a half ago, and LR warranty have agreed to pay for the replacement. Fortunately the car is still useable (until something else fails!), and guess what, it's on back order. Why do we do it? When the most brittle 4X4 in the world is working properley (oh, that was a Tuesday, I remember it) there's nothing to compare, but the reliability is still appalling.
I've come back to Land Rover after a ten year break (having "normal" cars in the meantime), but am thinking of deserting again. If the Japanese can get parts right and reliable, why does LR insist on constructing their vehicles with the cheapest (to them), most fragile components possible?
It's about time that they gave their component manufacturers a good kick up the backside and only tollerated one failure per thousand, not expect one in a thousand not to fail!
