cool box/camping fridge recommendations

Off to the caravan tomorrow and thought i'd take the fresh meat and stuff in my 12v/240v cool box and transfer it to the main fridge when we get there, and then use the cool box for it for extra drink cooling in the awning.

So I then discover tonight that its been broken and I need to go out tomorrow and buy a replacement. Given that Ive not got time to shop around much and just want to pick something up, what are my options.

Ideally id like a 3 way one 12v/240v/gas fridge but they don't have them in stock in Go Outdoors or Halfords and I can't think of anywhere else, so should I just by a decent 12v/240v cool box.

My budget is is maybe up to £180/£200 for a 3 way, but don't think ill get one locally tomorrow morning, so any recommendations on a decent 12v/24v cool box please. Thumbs Up

As much as the £6-800 fridge mob knock them on here...

Halfords powered cool box. I bought the largest they do and it's three years old and going strong.

May not run off the car all weekend like an Engel or a Waeco but to go back and forth to the van, used in the awning for drinks, and for beach or trips to markets, it's spot on.

Also about half your budget.

I have a WAECO CoolFun CK 40D Hybrid 12vdc & 240vac, only had it about a month but works well as a freezer off the mains and as a cooler on 12vdc.

Cheers guys, I'm limited on time due to the current heat wave and needing to buy something tomorrow, so I think ill end up buying something like the bigger Halfords one which will fill the gap for now and they always come in handy, but I do also have another very tempting option/offer from a fellow forum member which althrough I wouldn't get for a week or so, but would be a better long term solution Thumbs Up

I've got this and agree with Beanie. Bang on for the money, no gas use though.

I got my Tropicool 21 from Sewells of leeds best prices I could find at the time

Find it excellent, cools the beers down though I mainly put cold ones in which obviously helps and swap cold for warm each time I get one out

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I have a combicool '3 way' unit for precisely that purpose - only difference is I tend to keep mine outside of the awning when in warmer climates. Rear vents facing under the van to get access to cooler air.

Seriously thought about getting the Combicool 3 way 40ltr as we had one before, but have gone with the Tropicool TC 35 ltr 12v/240v which seems better in that it cools down to 30*C below ambient and should maintain 5*C at an outside temp up to 35*C + I got them down to £185 over the phone Thumbs Up SWMBO's picking it up now.

My Halfords one will be getting a proper test this holiday as it'll be on all the way to Brittany and back in the back of the car plus used as an auxiliary to the tin tent fridge - effectively running 24x7 for 2 weeks.

If that doesn't break it then it must be better than it gets credit for. Have to admit it doesn't have fancy controls, doesn't "heat" or freeze but it does a damn good job at keeping stuff cold and aside from being pedantic and wanting precision on the temperatures that's good enough for me.

When it dies I'll look in to something with ability to freeze as that'd be useful if it had an ice cube section Smile
