Coolant leak and oil on passenger side (RHD)
Hi guys,
First post - have been following the forum a lot. Got a 2008 D3 HSE 2.7 Diesel Automatic (Right Hand Drive) a few months ago, it's been great for throwing the bikes in and going around the countryside!
Time to ask for some help if I can. I had a low coolant warning over the summer and topped it up thinking not much of it. However I had the warning again and so I topped it up. However, we've now started to notice spots of liquid on the drive coming from the D3.
I've had a look and I can see drops of red fluid coming from a panel near to a pipe on the front passenger side. Does anyone have an idea what might cause a leak to come out from here? I've taken a few photos and circled where the leak seems to be.
Ive also noticed a missing bolt/screw from near this pipe, this is also circled, would anyone know the part here?
Having got down to inspect the coolant, Ive noticed a lot of oil that seems to be leaking from under the car or a pipe near to the front passenger wheel. There is a lot of oil above the passenger suspension arm. This isn't leaking onto the drive, but does seem to be covering the nearby parts in pretty dirty black oil.
I've attached some pictures, could someone tell me where to start with diagnosing this? It seems to be dripping from a tube onto some of the arms that attach to the wheel (i.e. it doesnt seem to be dripping from the wheel itself).
If you look at the pictures, what is the tube that is running down this side of the car?
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm likely to take it to the independent garage I brought it from so they can check it too, but a heads up would be great. If anyone can recommend a good LR specialist in the Bracknell/Wokingham/Camberley area I would consider that too. Thanks

where your coolant is leaking is a rats nest of coolant pipes and a plastic thermostat housing (containing thermostat!)
So need to trace where its leaking from
Although if it really is where you circle, could be the radiator

haha. the bikes do get rammed in, but I cover the seats to try and keep her clean at least
the coolant leaks seem to be getting worse (i.e. the puddles on the floor get bigger) so a bit concerned. temperature is fine however (And i dont get any warning messages apart from the low coolant which has now happened twice in 4/5 months)
im quite concerned about the second issue, but i can't figure out what the pipe is (have got the Hayes manual and have been googling for ages!)
I've managed to get a shot a bit further underneath, it doesn't seem to be coming from where the "cap" (do you know what this is?)

That looks like the cv boot split and throwing all its grease out tbh. Mine was the inner boot split and made a right mess.2006 TdV6 HSE.

The dirty black oil is engine oil, take the engine cover off and check the filter cap is not leaking, don’t take the filter out as it has a nipple on the bottom that must locate in a hole in the bottom, in the “v” of the engine is a plastic “Y” water fitting that is known to fail.
The turbo is above the oil leak it may be a hose has split, it could the front crank oil seal spraying oil back.
The red oil is brake fluid, check all levels to see if any have gone down or up. At least the leaks are external and not internal.It can when others can't,

In the first photo the vertical bent pipe is the fuel burning heater exhaust, the heater as you should know heats the engine coolant water on cold mornings, check all the hoses on the FBH.It can when others can't,

Thanks for the update all!
Regards the CV boot, would that be the bit circled in the image?
I did consider that it was spurting off from this area (the whole of the metal work around the passenger wheel is covered in this oil/grease stuff) but i didn't think any liquid would be passing through this part. What is the grease doing and how bad is it to be leaking if so?
Did a bit of driving tonight and having checked, there's a fair bit of coolant fluid on the undercarriage. Its booked in for next wednesday... hopefully both issues will survive until then.

Yes that CV boot needs changing.
Mot failure and will eventually knacker the joint if it keeps going round without grease
Lead to clicking or no drive!
Not a 5 minute job to change!

Can anyone recommend a good specialist in Berkshire area? As I feel I can mention what has been discussed here and try and get a more accurate quote.
I'm concerned that there maybe more damage if the boot has been damaged for a while - don't want the garage I brought it from to not do the full required works!

Hi all
Thanks for the tips again, just to close the case -
The coolant leak was coming from the coolant "screw" in the tank - was just oozing out around the side of the screw. They cleaned and replaced the screw and it's fine now.
The grease/oil was indeed a bust CV boot, they ordered the parts from a LR dealer (only pairs - i'm sure we could have found a single boot but didn't want to wait around) - was replaced and looks nice and shiny now.

May as well change both boots after all the labour of removing shaft
