Coolant loss from 2006 TDV6 Disco 3 and no outward signs.
I have a problem with our D3 - TDV6 2006. It is loosing coolant but there are no outward signs. The coolant system holds pressure when tested but it does drop when the vehicle is driven. I have had a garage take a look and all of the pipes have been checked with no signs of coolant loss (including at the rear heater matrix). I have had a couple of 'low coolant' warnings, but no elevated temperature dial readings. I have removed the engine cover and there are no signs of coolant residues around the plastic manifold at the top of the front of the engine. Not really done a scientific test, but possible 0.5 litres in 20 miles.
Any ideas? - Thanks in advance.

EGR coolers would be my first thought as the leak would be internal to the exhaust.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Thank you - I had thought that could be an issue, but having spoken to two Land Rover specialists in the area, both said that they had never had to replace those components on a D3 and I was just looking for other possibilities.
I should have said, the oil looks OK and is not being used at an elevated rate.
I think we are on 70,000m at present.

That's a lot off coolant. Gearbox oil cooler?

Gear changes appear to be OK still and no obvious loss of gearbox performance.....
The loss figure was a very rough estimate.... the filler reservoir is very hard to see and I did over-fill and have to drain a couple of times (using a rubber pipe from the reservoir).
There is no pressure in the system after a drive....

If there is no pressure when the engine is hot and switched of, you have a big problem. Did they do a CO check off the coolant?

OK - this is very likely NOT your problem but I had something similar a while back.
I replaced the coolant header tank but NOT the pressurised cap. Had a bloody annoying 'chuffing' noise but only when the engine was hot and thought little of it.
Then I popped the bonnet and found the coolant level really low - probably just above the level the warning light would have triggered.
It transpired the cap, while tight when cold, wasn't sealing properly when heat and pressure increased. As a temporary (actually ongoing ) fix I wrapped a thick elastic band around the neck of the tank and to date have had no more loss (or bloody noise...).
Thing was there was no trace of leaking coolant in the engine bay, engine oil or anywhere else.I see no ships........

Not that I am aware of yet......And what might that problem be? Head?

I have replaced the cap in case that was the issue..... so unless both caps are faulty, it is not that. However, if it is the bottle/tank and not the cap, then it could be....

Check the Water Outlet Assembly. Common for it to split at the vibration weld and leak where you can’t see it.
It’s under the air inlet Y piece on top of the engine.Bodsys Brake Bible
