United Kingdom 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 Base 7 Seat Manual Cairns BlueDiscovery 3
Correct way of towing

I am new to any type of 4wheel drive although I am a caravaner and have a 26 foot twin wheelbase tin tent.
The manual says to tow in low gears although the dealer told me not to as it will burn the clutch out. Can a fellow tower give me some advice please. Confused

You don't need to tow in low range except in unusual circumstances. Just use the box as you normally would for any other motor Thumbs Up

The Manual wrote:
The torque ranges of Land Rover engines allow

hills or rough terrain. The use of LOW range is
recommended for manual transmission
vehicles when manoeuvring heavy trailers or
performing hill starts, to avoid excessive clutch
wear.

When it says heavy trailers it means trailers weighing close to the vehicles overall capability .You would be fine with a caravan I'm sure.

The only time you need low range towing is for going over very rough ground when you want to be going as slowly as possible, or when reversing, as low range in reverse is ideal for control.
