Cost to have engine replaced in Disco 4?

I understand its a 26/27 hour job to change the engine on my Disco 4 Shocked
Can anyone recommend a good specialist in the Surrey/Sussex area as my 47k mile car has started knocking and main dealer + 2x indies have all said crank failure. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry
I can get a new engine via a friend who's a main dealer at a good(ish) price but still need to get it swapped.

I assume you have no warranty? Is it still turning over?

From memory, an engine swap costs in the region of £5k.

Cars still running, but clattering at tickover which reduces under load. From what I read it usually gets worse under load(?), but mine's the opposite. No oil warning lights, in fact on the move you wouldn't suspect anything is wrong.
I bought the car only 7 months ago with 35k on it, from a small dealer with a 6 month warranty that ran out 4 weeks ago!!!!!
Previous owners were retired and used it to tow their caravan and probably drove it very sedately. I've done 12k in 7 months and haven't abused it but I have 'made progress' lets say and driven it harder than they probably did.
Its an 3.0 SDV6 HSE and immaculate so worth doing but I may sell as it is, to someone on the forum who knows what they're buying.
I've even just spent £700 on new OE discs and pads all round which is even more gauling

Could you possibly record the sound? I used an iPhone placed on the top of the front tyre, and recorded a short video. Post to YouTube and link us to it. Thumbs Up

I was concerned, but having had it checked by main dealer, they compared with other D4 and concluded it was normal.

Here's Drivers side cold.

Passenger side cold

Drivers side hot.

Contact Landrover and make the biggest complaint of your life. Any engine should not fail at that miliage.
You may be entitled to something towards the costs. Good luck.

I would have dropped it off at dealership, left them the keys and said "Sort it then call me when fixed"

Blue Disco, there are any noise differences from cold engine vs. hot?

look at http://www.disco4.com/forum/topic146554.ht...king+noise

Also mine has the same noise as patersp.... and booked to the dealer the 7th of October....

Here two new video (no video but sound)

On cold engine (no tapping noise)

When engine is hot (tapping noise) same noise as Patersp and he solved with new hydraulic valve lifters.

Every time, when I change the oil, I also check if in the oil filter are present mechanical particles.

And every time the filter it's absolutely clean without any kind of metallic particles or powder .....

The white small spots are air bubbles on the filter housing or the filter paper bristle illuminated by the flash of the camera.

Checked and re-checked, seen and re-seen, filter is clean!

so at 99,9999% bearings are OK!
