Cost and Quality of Fuel Filters

Hi All. I've just purchased a '55 plate fuel filter from LR Taunton. I was to say abit shocked at the price £57.22 plus VAT. He did however drop the price to £45.78 plus VAT. I could have purchased an after market one for £37.50 plus VAT from Famous Four. Does anyone know if the quality of the filters is any different, or if it is would it be detrimental to the fuel system/engine. The vehicle only does about 6000 mile a year and I will service it yearly. This is it's first DIY service.
Thanks Roger

Non genuine parts are fine if your out of warranty

They have to be as good as the genuine part anyway...My L200 is serviced with genuine parts but has a DIY service between every main dealer service so it maintains its reliability Laughing

Which is a joke as i havnt seen it for 2 weeks as its at the main dealers and they dont know whats wrong with it

mate you drive a car that new cost at least 35000 quids

running cost come along with it

do not try to save a dozen quids on aftermarket parts, my personal experience says that it ends up MORE expensive ...

go genuine, even if you install it your self or via a independant garage.

The genuine parts are only boxed different

I agree some things like belts etc. should be genuine but filters, brakes, pads etc. it doesnt really matter

it all depends on what ones calls aftermarket

filters made from the exact same manufacturer, then why not, alright, but watch out for so called "adaptables" if you pay 1/4th of the price, it is because it is made far from europe ... and with cheap materials, cheap engineering and so on.

then again, is 12 quid worth the trnaquility of well filtered fuel compared to changing say... an injector (or 6 !)

you do your math, i made mine 8)

You reckon Confused

I can tell you about the difference between brakes and pads and filters that would send you to sleep at night. People think it's all the same...it ain't Evil or Very Mad
It may come from the same factory but that's where it stops.

did you know your normal brake pad for tuppney happeny price has maybe 4-6 compounds in the mix of the pad material
LR engineering spec is for 26 different compounds..they can operate in temps from -20 to +50 as they have a worldwide market to contend with...

and don;t get me on to filters... Laughing we'll be here all night Laughing

At the end of the day if you want piece of mind and direct replacement fit genuine...if you don't give a stuff and can accept squeaky brake pads, the fact it might not stop that time that you really need it....the fuel pump fails because the cheap s h i t t y fuel filter you put on blocks up then go ye ahead...

i put my trust in genuine parts, not because i have to but because i beleive they are the best for the vehicle

Very resourceful. Did you use a washing-up liquid bottle and some sellotape?
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.
