Crab Attack? Help please?
Yesterday whilst replacing my sidesteps after the excellent Salisbury event, I noticed how much easier I could get my fat hand and stubby screwdriver into the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch on one side over the other.
Today, I have ventured out and used a tape measure to measure the wheel spacings. Before I started :
* I ensured the steering wheel was exactly straight ahead (and in this position I go in a straight line without having to correct left or right so I think the tracking is OK)
* Put the car on level ground
* Didn't change height
* Drove backwards and forwards a couple of times in a straight line to ensure there was no twist caused by tyres
* Checked tyre pressures were accurate
Measuring at hub centre height, from the forward edge of the front wheel alloy rim to the forward edge of the rear, I get the following measurements (+/- 1mm):
Nearside 290cm
Offside 289cm
So do I panic and start doing a headless chicken, or is this 'within spec' for the bushings/geometry of the car?Dr. Ian Malcolm:

First off 1cm, out of nearly 300 is 0.3% approx

It drives fine and was wearing all the tyres evenly. I've got ATRs on all round now so it'll be months before I can tell if there's scrubbing.
Although as a percentage I agree it's small, as a measurement I thought it was quite big for a difference in something that usually starts life as being very exactly the same. If it was a 30 year old deafener I'd think it was quite tight
