Crab Attack? Help please?

Yesterday whilst replacing my sidesteps after the excellent Salisbury event, I noticed how much easier I could get my fat hand and stubby screwdriver into the gap between the tyre and the wheel arch on one side over the other.

Today, I have ventured out and used a tape measure to measure the wheel spacings. Before I started :
* I ensured the steering wheel was exactly straight ahead (and in this position I go in a straight line without having to correct left or right so I think the tracking is OK)
* Put the car on level ground
* Didn't change height
* Drove backwards and forwards a couple of times in a straight line to ensure there was no twist caused by tyres
* Checked tyre pressures were accurate

Measuring at hub centre height, from the forward edge of the front wheel alloy rim to the forward edge of the rear, I get the following measurements (+/- 1mm):
Nearside 290cm
Offside 289cm

So do I panic and start doing a headless chicken, or is this 'within spec' for the bushings/geometry of the car?

Transgenic tomato anyone?

thought this was going to refer to an STD Clinic for a mo Shocked

First off 1cm, out of nearly 300 is 0.3% approx

If thats too much then well dunno - either something's being whacked out of kilter or you have a toe in or a toe out somewhere - you need thoise mirror/laser thingummies they have at tyre places to be sure... Confused

It drives fine and was wearing all the tyres evenly. I've got ATRs on all round now so it'll be months before I can tell if there's scrubbing.
Although as a percentage I agree it's small, as a measurement I thought it was quite big for a difference in something that usually starts life as being very exactly the same. If it was a 30 year old deafener I'd think it was quite tight Smile

Drive down the road apply brakes smartly come to a halt hold on hand brake. Measure as before.
Reverse down road apply brakes smartly come to a halt hold on hand brake. Measure as before.

Same or different,
bushings moving or just out of alignment Question

Failing that jack it up and check suspension play with long tyre lever
