I have had my LR3 for just under 3 months and done 2500km. I love this car, but I am not having much luck with it. Three visits to the dealer so far and now a cracked windshield. The dealer wants $1300 (824 pounds) for a new windshield. It has cracked in the top right hand corner and split across the screen.

Over here, most insurance companies include windscreen for a small excess of about $100. Do they not do the same over there? I've had two in the last 6 months. Hopefully no more! Bodsys Brake Bible

You can get it on your insurance, they will just get you later on higher premium.

never had to replace a windscreen yet...but from what I understand, don't skimp on the replacement and make sure it is fitted by an LR-competent dealer. Replacements have been know to leak if they are not bonded correctly or the trim is not replaced with new clips etc. The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
Club "yes, I too have had the EGR's replaced..."
Club "yes, I too have had the compressor replaced..."
Club "yes, I too once had the car at the dealer for a couple of weeks nearly 4 weeks over 4 weeks...5 weeks"
Club "yes, I too have had EPB failure..."
Club "yes, I too get mysterious bings and bongs..."

You'll find in the UK main dealers don't fit there own windscreens, they get a sub-contractor in to fit them.
To be honest as long as you find a company that gives a lifetime guarantee on workmanship then you'll find you'll be ok PRIDE OF NORTH LONDON

Never again will I get anything but a LR OEM windscreen - had 3 Autoglass replacements on the throt within 30 months - all had the same fault: heating elements failed after 3-4 months. Paid the excess for an OEM screen which Autoglass got from a dealer and then fitted - not had another problem for 2 years.
As for the insurance uping your premium - here in the UK most insurers I know of will not reduce your no claims discount for Glass only claims - i.e. your premium doesn't get increased as a result of a glass replacement. Must be different in the US or Canada LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

I had a new windscreen a couple of months ago fitted by Autoglass.
I was told that it was the same windscreen that Landrover fit on new vehicles except there is no Landrover logo on it. If I wanted to wait for 2 weeks, they would get me one with the logo on........
I chose not to wait because I needed to use the car.
It looks identical & seems fine so far.
I don't believe that any Landrover dealer would fit a windscreen. It's a specialist job. Mitsubishi Outlander Phev 4H 2018.

Dealers will not fit any bonded glass. My D3 goes in to have new roof glass fitted Monday dealer will strip out headliner etc then get in a screen company to fit the glass. Defender 300Tdi 110 HCP - Keswick Green

I never said the dealer fitted it, Autoglass fitted. Yes Autoglass say it the same, but why that does theirs only cost a third and the heating elements failed on three successive ones with in months of fitting where no issues with the OEM ones - it's not just quantity, but quality in my oppinion, because another thing I found and even SWMBO commented on without being prompted was that the heating elements in the Autoglass screens were more noticeable than in the OEM one. LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Thats a good point.
I only had the car for about a week before the windscreen got broken. I didn't notice any difference at all. I guess those who have owned their cars longer would notice things like the heater element being more visible. Mitsubishi Outlander Phev 4H 2018.

I had the new windshield fitted today. $770 (480pounds) and this had the heated front screen and rain sensor. The dealer wanted $1200 just for the windshield, fitting was extra. The glass is the same as OEM as it says Pilkington on it. Pilkington also makes the OEM screen.
