It happened to a friend of mine who owns a 2010 D4 about 5 weeks ago, luckily for him he's been paying for extended warranty so they covered it.
It may be worth getting a group complaint together, or seeing if the press are interested, Auto Express, daily mail, watch dog , etc.

I can add my name to the list. Also a 2010 and only 55,000 miles.

Hi Chris
Was yours covered under warranty? If so did LR cover the costs?
Thanks
Charlie

It's only been diagnosed properly today and I'm told a report now has to go to LR which takes a couple of days. The dealer will then speak to Customer Service and we go from there. I didn't buy it from a main dealer (although it did come to the dealer direct from LR) and the last service was at an indie. All other services are LR though.
I have a limited 3rd party warranty which will help, but won't be enough to cover the bill if it needs a new engine

I am expecting a further reply from JLR in the next couple of days so will update after that.
Good luck all.
feel so sorry and angry for the guys affected byvthis obviously poor design issue
when you talk about crushed filter Mikey is that in the vertical as if the lug hasn't located at the bottomof the filter so when you replace the filter housing lid it crushes the filter as its tightened home

Preemptive action?
Given that this is a potential engine killer, how hard/expensive would it be to drop the sump and fit new bearings? The early Toyoto Amazons had an issue with poor quality big end bearings and it was an easy option to fit new shells before the original ones failed badly.
Regards,
George

Just to add my broken D4 to this list. 2011 with 62,000 miles, approved LR vehicle, fully serviced an maintained by main dealer. In the process of consulting a solicitor and send letter under the sale of goods act to main dealer. Any help or tips for a good outcome appreciated
