United Kingdom 2009 Discovery 3 TDV6 HSE Auto Barolo BlackDiscovery 3
sorry to jump on this

Hi All my first posting and hoping you can help. I brought my disco 3 july 2014 (2009 82K) absolutely love her, however from 11th day of owning her she has been back at the main dealers for work ( I wont name dealers etc as currently in disPute through solicitors). within the 1st month i kept asking for the dealership to take her back and kept being fobbed off with they have gone over her with a fine toothcomb nothing else can go wrong and then within the week she is back in for work she has been with them from 1 day upto 4 months at a time, they keep giving me hire cars but i cant continue in my job in them as so small so have had no choice but to buy another car whilst waiting for the dealership, an expert mechanics report and my solicitor to sort things. I run around upto my mums etc in her daily (well until the other day and here is my problem) I turned her around in the drive she struggled to start which she does on cold mornings and shakes a lot but then seems fine, so i turned her in my drive ready to take my dog vets, got her in the boot went to go and she wouldn't start properly, she sounds like a tractor shakes like a tractor no power if i press accelerator then cuts out ? Ive had her recovered into main dealers (not the 1 i purchased thru) they are saying something about my crankshaft has play and it will cost £396 to diagnose ? Reading this post i'm worried now its terminal if its what everyone is on about on her Sad Does anyone have any ideas ? so far she has had the following replaced or repaired i dont know if any will have any influence on current problem -
High pressure fuel pump
4 sets of brakes and discs witin 16k (1 occasion after 165 miles of replacemet)
air compressor
steering rack
gearbox
gearbox selector
fuel flap release
parking sensors (still go off cont now)
engine latch
alarm
cambelt
wishbones front and rear
wheel bearings
EGR valve
Injector seals
Handrake shoes
bushes and steering arm

Oil or crank & jag implant.

My discovery3 just died. 2007 commercial XS auto, 194,000 miles.

Came round a small roundabout & as I. And back onto the straight the oil light flashed a couple of times filled by the other lights & the engine died. No oil showing, including on the dipstick. Had no warnings previous. Put some oil in & cranked it over, wouldn't start & bottom end rattled like hell.

Do you think it would be oil pump or broken crankshaft?

Does the jaguar X type complete engine just drop into the discovery?

If it's not a broken crank, is it hard to rebuild?

United Kingdom 2011 LR4 3.0 TDV6 HSE Auto Santorini BlackLR4

I have just had exactly the same problem.
I purchased my Range Rover Sport HSE 3.0 TDV6, model year 2011, new from Marshall Land Rover Cambridge.
I have had it serviced every year without fail at Marshall Land Rover in Cambridge. Full Land Rover service history and it has now covered 58,000 miles.
2 days ago, without any warning, whilst driving i felt a jolt and then the battery ignition lights came on and engine died. Tried to restart but only got a clicking sound.
Car was recovered to Marshall Land Rover and i was then informed after inspection that the engine had seized and that a replacement engine would cost £18,000!!
I telephoned Land Rover customer services and explained to them that I'm a loyal customer and that this is the 4th Range Rover i've had over the last 25 years and that i've always had it serviced by Land Rover on schedule with a full LR service history.
I also told them that i'd just taken delivery of a new 2017 Discovery 3.0 TDV6 only 2 weeks ago which i ordered for my wife....how much more loyal do i need to be!
Their answer was quite definite in that they were not prepared to offer any goodwill or support to me as my car is almost 7 years old!
Can anyone advise if they've had any luck with LR?

Sorry to hear of your woes; it will be of little comfort to hear that you are not alone.

FWIW I can't help but think that Marshalls should be speaking with JLR on your behalf. There are numerous examples of cases where LR have made goodwill gestures to people in this situation, especially with such a low mileage. I think that in South Africa it was (maybe still is) reported the official LR policy was to offer a goodwill gesture.

Try the search function to learn more, and then try taking it up with Marshalls on Monday.

Good luck.

Gutted for you. A real shame these cars have this issue!

You will also be please to know the D5 engine is basically the same as the D4 sans 1 turbo!

That's really going to cheer simon1 (and any 3.0 D5 owner) up. Laughing

£18k to change an engine on a D4 is going to consign many, many cars to the scrapper, which is criminal! Would be interesting to find out how much the LR replacement engine is when done by a good indi, like DM. Whistle Whistle

The engine alone is £10k + VAT

Little more involved in replacing a 3.0 engine

Be somewhere in the region of £14k Big Cry

Easy to see why these places advertising a "recon" engine supplied and fitted for £3k are so busy...

Whats the cheapest way to get an engine in a 3.0l then? When i say cheapest, i mean a good engine?

Whats a recon + fitting as an estimate? I assume the £10k + Vat is a new engine?

£18,000 was not even for a NEW engine...factory reconditioned engine!
Can anyone recommend a good independant who could supply and fit a recon engine?
Lots of ads on google, most of them in Barking, but how can you trust what they're going to do and what you're getting.
