Crankshaft oil seal

Hi all,
Just changed the oil and noticed oil around the front lower area of the engine.
I think it might be the crankshaft oil seal and would like to know the approx costs to replace.

Many thanks andi

Belts not due yet and yes oil pump changed for newer design. However if the belt is contaminated with oil l would probably change.

the seal is cheap but the labour wont be pal , its basically going to be like doing the belts again as the toothed part of the crank needs to be removed to fit the new seal

contact the people who replaced the oil pump, they have screwed up, you might get reduced rate.

Thanks for the replies Thumbs Up
I was fairly sure the belts were coming off. Just wondered what cost might be.

50k ago is a long time for it to suddenly start leaking , think you should investigate more , only takes an hour or so to get the covers off and you don't need a massive tool kit to do it

I can't think of anything else in that area that could cause the leak , anyone any idea. I have checked from above and it's all dry down until about the crank area.

Some early reinforced Fomco pumps did have a leak from the allen key blank at the top of the Oil pump housing, the threads leaked oil, there was a TSB issued.
I had to change a couple of pumps for this very reason, the TSB said to remove the blank and reseal, but you cant get anything in to the blank until the pump is removed, the blank sits hard up to the engine casting.

Flack Thumbs Up

^^^^^ plus don't forget the green inlet manifold seals (?) mine have wept ever since I've had my d3 (5 years) resulting in oil coming from the hole in the bottom of the cam belt cover, when I did my belts last summer there was no oil any where on the belt system so I left it alone Thumbs Up

Many thanks for your help
Now the big question, do you think it is safe to drive if it is the crank seal could it suddenly totally fail causing major damage.

More than likley its as simple as the others have suggested but unless you take the covers off and have a look i would assume the worst is going to happen.
