Creaks in the Dashboard

Creaks in the Dashboard

Noticed yesterday – a quiet moment with the radio off – that the plastic dashboard seems to creak a lot under flexion as the car bounces along the road. The creaking sound seems to be coming from the centre console and with out any sound on is annoying.

I’ve tried hitting it to see of it just needs to settle but no luck.

The console has been in and out a bit with warranty repairs – just wondering if its typical and I’m being over fussy?

And before anybody suggests… [TFC?] the creaking is not from my limbs - well not that I can tell anyway Wink

Are you sure its not the seat? I just had a new frame and the creaks have all gone. It was a little difficult to pinpoint exactly where the creak was coming from.

Eliminated everything and just seems to be the centre console. Trouble is, it quite a large bit(s) of plastic and it's hard to pin-point.

I've done the usual thump and bang with the heal of my hand, as well as pressing the joints, but still it creaks. Very petty I know, but you'be be amazed just how irritating it gets if your on five live and there's no music to drown it out. Sad

Yeah, but if I do that, word will get out and everybody will want a lollypop holder as an extra. Once LR get wind it'll be on the 2007-spec sheet at ££££££££. Then there will be the bling variants, and the G4 extra-heavy duty versions, topics on the forums... and then they'll go wrong... warranty issues... not to mention the safety issues - Commons motions about handsdfree llollypop holders.... and then like the parking ticket holders they'll be deleted for 2008 and we're back to square one.

Thud

See what your suggestion will rsesult in?

You're not alone, mate, my creaks in the same place and you're right its bloody irritating, its a winter creak, it will disappear in the summer Shocked you wait and see. If you do manage to track it down or fix it with a lollipop stick don't keep us in the dark Wink

You could try sqirting a bit of Mr Sheen in the joints between the plastics. Failing that some other polish to lubricate the 'rubbing' causing the squeek.

I would shudder to suggest KY but thought I'd get it in before someone else did Shocked , anyway water based lubricants wouldn't be good for the wiring & ECU's behind there methinks.
