Credit Card surcharges

It was announced recently that HM Govt were banning credit card surcharges from 13th Jan this year.

Good on em Thumbs Up

However, just went on line with HM Govt to tax swmbo's car and lo and behold when it came to paying, this message popped up on the payment page.

"There is no fee for paying with any debit card, pre-paid card or personal credit card. An additional fee of £2.50 is applicable to all other types of cards."

What's that all about then. Shocked

Paid by debit card so don't really know if charges would indeed have been applied, if not though, they could've at least updated the web page - easily enough done!

The way it’s phrased is £63.25 for 6 months or £60.38 if by if renewing by continuous direct debit.

The guy is in his 80’s with a terminal condition, so I think option A. Rolling Eyes

I just renewed and there is no additional charge for credit card over any other type of card, think the website is just a bit behind.

I thought this was an EU directive so as you all are leaving the EU there is no point bringing it in for the few months of EU membership left.

Companies can still be charged a surcharge on their credit cards hence stating no fee for personal credit cards.
