Usually... it either works or it doesn't. Yesterday I gave it a go and it worked for about 3 seconds then turned itself off... It will be good it get it sorted once and for all!As you slide down the banister of life

Had to delay taking the dar into the Dealer, but it finally went in last Friday. Apparently they have found some 'chafing' to the wiring which runs from the steering wheel through the steering column. Hopefully once this is recified it will put an end to this long outstanding 'niggle'.As you slide down the banister of life

Our Discovery did this also.
When in the dealer for the first time they said that no fault was found... basically they road tested it and it worked.
Second time it went into the dealer they found a fault code present and it turned out to be a faulty rotary coupling.
It would work for a random amount of time and then not again for days. Once they replaced this part all has been fine since.

A few useless facts about mine...
ALWAYS works OK when first switched on - if I have waited for the "bong" at start-up"
SOMETIMES works faultlessly all day
MORE OFTEN drops out when towing than solo
USUALLY goes A.W.O.L. if I press and hold the (-) button to decelerate
OCCASIONALLY goes A.W.O.L. after switching "off" and does not respond to "resume"
NEVER drops out whilst cruise mode operational.
WORKS down to 17mph (should be 20+)
Once A.W.O.L only switching off ignition and re-starting will cure it [that doesn't sound like clock spring]
The nice people at Yeovil (yes, I went 200 miles for a service ) couldn't get it to happen / cure it, but it happened on the way home .

They should replace it anyway,. Could still be the clock spring.

When starting car, turn ignition to II, wait for glow plug light to go out, then get a 'Bong' to tell you 'all systems are go'!!

Also... I experienced all of the problems AndrewW had (apart from towing)
Happy to say that I've not had any problems with the cruise since they found the chaffed wiring. As you slide down the banister of life

Sounds like mine used to be - they changed the entire left hand side switch panel on the steering wheel and it has been fine ever since Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)
