Cruise control fault (again)

Over the last year or so I have had a really annoying intermittent fault with the cruise control. Some times it works... some times it doesn't. During a long journey it might work for a while then just cease to work even after restarting engine.

It's been in a few times to have this rectified... fault codes cleared etc... and finally a couple of weeks ago the switch on the steering wheel was replaced. Off I drove from the dealers with a smug face, safe in the knowledge that the fault was finally cured... NOT Big Cry

Took the car out yesterday and it's back to it's old tricks.

Has any one else had a similar problem despite having the switch replaced? Or have any idea what the cause is?

Thanks chaps

Mine was fixed with one software download last August, not reoccurred since, your problem may be more involved though if the Dealer has tried this.

Mine was similar - fixed in February - dealers replaced steering wheel control on left hand side - now rocksolid (wheres that fingers crosss emoticon?)

On a slight negative note, you can tell, just, that its been replaced as the finish on the whole panel is very very slightly different

The software downloads seemed to work for a few months and no problem with the steering wheel switch.. matched perfectly... but it musn't have been the switch that was the fault.

Suggest the dealer replaces the clock spring.

Not being that technical either - but replacing the clock spring cured all my cruise control problems straight away. I forget what it's officially called, the something "cassette"??? Dealer says he's had loads that needed replacing and immediately knew what I meant. It goes behind the steering wheel and provides all the sprung electrical contacts to the switches on the wheel. ie. so the wheel can go turn without all the cables getting knotted!!!

Just shows that Cruise should not be fitted from new if it is to work correctly. I had mine fitted after bought 2nd hand, by fitting controls and enabling through Autologic. Not had one problem since fitted - just shows eh?

Just a matter of luck really there have been issues with clock spring, switch module and software.
My module was replaced after intermitent cruise fuction, haven't had a chance to use it much since so we'll see if it has fixed it.

Y'all

Mine is a 2005 model, and I've noticed some troubles with the cruise control. After an short investigation, they will change the whole panel. All onboard controlers have been flashed recently with the latest consistent releases.

Hope it will solve my problem.

My 05 needed a new spiral cassette thingy too. Been fine for bout 6 months now. At the same time the cruise control stopped working I noticed that at night the illumination for all the steering wheel controls flickered as well.
I'd be unstoppable - if I could just get started
