The crushing silence!

Finally - I swapped out the Censored Dunlop HP Censored tires that came with the car today! Thumbs Up

Censored Censored Censored Censored talk about noisy tires! Evil or Very Mad

As the LR3 is primarily a road warrior for me (D2 is my offroad vehicle) I wanted a super quiet road tire.

Local dealership recommended Toyo Proxes ST II, so I went to an indy tire shop (found a local one run by a Brit) and ordered in the Toyos...

First off the tires looked awesome - amazing tread pattern, nothing like the big blocks on the Dunlops.

Then we had to deal with putting the LR3 on the lift.

I checked and checked, no definitive info on 'jacking mode'

After half and hour of research on the iPhone, I opted for offroad height, hazard lights on, and door open - prior to jacking.

Seemed to work ok. Anyone any definitive info to share?????? Shocked

Why doesn't the Censored manual cover this basic procedure properly!

With the LR3 in the air, and the wheels off and marked up as to which corner they came from - the new tires were fitted and balanced.

re-fit to the LR3, check presure with hand guage.

The Censored TPMS warning light would not go off!

Re-check pressure, still no go.

Drive round the block - still have the warning light on! Sad

Gave up - checked online again, saw a suggestion that you had to drive 'several miles' to reset the warning.

WTF? Why no mention in the owners manual? Evil or Very Mad

Paid, and started driving home - 2 miles out, light went off Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

And the real joy...

silence

No tire noise, no rumble, no drumming.

Wooooooooo Hooooooooo! Mr. Green

I can hear the engine again - amazing!

So really happy so far, but clearly time will tell - will report back as I put on some miles.

They look directional tyres .... yes ?

For some reason, maybe I'm mad , this type of design are quieter ......... or so I've found
on the Honda and GM cars I've re-tyred.

How many pounds pressure are you running ?

It's in the handbook, put it into off-road height, no other smoke and mirrors required Rolling Eyes The End

Directional tread and 33 PSI front and 42 PSI rear.

The design of the tread pattern is unique (to put it mildly) - very different to the previous ST model as well.

Supposed to be quieter from new, and stay quieter as it wears - we'll see.

I guess that's what you get for looking online! Shocked

There were many posts about tire shops being told to leave a door open, rear hatch open, hazards on.......

On this very forum! Whistle

I still have problems with mine though, it doesn't stay in off-road height if I jack a corner, always shuffles and adjusts itself. Very disconcerting with the o.e. jack.

I think the putting the D3 into off road height is to pre extend the suspension so there is not such a dramatic shift of weight when it does decide to shuffle its feet.

Hazards and rear hatch make no difference, will still go into extended mode.

Swapped the scorpions over onto winter/snow tyres today. Left it in normal height, jacked the wheels about an inch on the wishbones then the car shuffled and lifted them another inch, which was nice 8)
I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

I've done a few hundred miles with the new rubber in place, and am very impressed.

Handling has greatly improved, with far more positive steering feedback.

Ride is smooth and quiet - vibration is gone, and the rear view mirror no longer looks blurry! Shocked

If it continues this way I'll be super chuffed Thumbs Up
