Cutting the boot mat

I have a genuine part boot mat. Looking at it there are parts that you can cut out to allow the tie down loops to be used. However it looks to me like it would be a bit fragile if I were to cut them out.

Anyone else tried it and if you have, did it stay in one piece afterwards or tear?

I cut mine, but left the rubber in as flaps to cover the tie downs. Will add a picture when I can.

I cut the holes with with a sharp knife. The rubber is surprisingly strong and won’t break or get brittle.

I cut them with a scalpel and they are strong enough to use as handles to pick the mat up!

Use a 'wad punch' to make holes in the corners, the holes will prevent the cut spreading. Then just follow the 'D' shape with a very sharp Stanley knife or similar.

punch

Yes the punch in the corner is the solution to my fears of the rubber tearing. Thanks for the photo and to everyone else for the advice
