I see your problem - by not immediately batting it back and saying you could go no further until the lazy Censored in finance gave you the numbers, you took ownership of the problem.

Going back on topic, for a moment, the following study shows that the "made and released in a Chinese lab" conspiracy hypothesis is almost certainly bunkum.

Our analyses clearly show that SARS-CoV-2 is not a laboratory construct or a purposefully manipulated virus.

The paper's authors are an international bunch, none is Chinese or at a Chinese institute. One is even in jolly old Edinburgh.

Sadly not. Trump is playing to a portion of the electorate with every media briefing. It's transparent to any outside observer but probably not to his intended audience, ironically.

I'm firmly of the opinion it was most likely an accidental release from the Wuhan Institute of Virology

The whole world knows they were working on several Coronavirus strains. It is not unreasonable to think that substandard bio security allowed somebody to become infected at work and carry it out to the general public.

I don't think the virus is man made, I do think its transmission to humans is most likely through poor working practices

The peer reviewed consensus published in Nature is that it was not manmade / adapted / accidentally released from a lab.

This is the paragraph that explains the two probable routes. More detail is given in the following paragraphs should anyone wish to read it.

Much of that article is to technical for me Very Happy

As I read it, I get the naturally occurring mutation making animal to human transfer possible.
I also get the bit that they feel in very unlikely to be an engineered virus.

Doesn't seem to say (unless I missed it) whether there is any real evidence for the wet market source of animal to human transfer either

I still lean toward accidental release from WIV rather than the wet market option.

The virus has similar methods of entering human and pangolin cells via the ACE2 enzyme which is located in the membrane of many cells including the those in the lungs. This suggests that it basically hopped from an infected pangolin - of which there are very many illegally imported each year in to that part of China - to a human. Likewise, there are similarities between a certain bat SAR-CoV2-like virus but it's binding method is different to the pangolin one (which just so happens to match the binding method required to use ACE2 in humans).

Have enough humans exposed to stuff from other animals and every now and then you'll get something jumping over. It's a natural process that appears to have happened many times through biological history.

Summary: scary stuff happens naturally. Laughing

The yanks are saying it got loose from the lab in Wuhan https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/20...laboratory but not that it was man made.

So if it wasn’t man-made, it stands to reason that it first broke cover in the wild (i.e. not in a lab). Ergo, for the “it escaped from a lab” theory to be correct, it must first have been identified in the general population, a sample taken and preserved in the lab, without the initial outbreak spreading. Not very likely that the initial outbreak would be contained in those circumstances. Indeed, might I suggest that a simpler answer is that the initial outbreak was in the general population and spread to become a global pandemic ..... Wink
