Cycle racks fitted to towbar |
|
Has anyone ever fitted a cycle rack onto the removable towbar, seen some racks advertised that take 3 bikes and fit to towbars some even fold outwards so you accsess the boot. 8) 'Just because you're breathing doesn't mean you're alive'

I've been using the Thule GS905 Euroclassic with 2 bikes on the back of my Mondeo and its fine. You can get an adaptor to take 3 bikes, but they do various versions which take 2, 3 or 4 bikes.
I find roofrackshop prices pretty good:

If I was getting it again though I'd be tempted to get the EasyBase which you can use as a bike rack mount (you buy the base carrier and then the bike racks on top) or you can put a bag or box on it for more storage space when you need it.

Just got the Thule 909 from Towequipe and had a trial with it ahead of the BH. Very impressed with the solidity of the mounting. Package incluided 4th bike adaptor.

Can I vote for Atera Strada like this http://www.chwhite.btinternet.co.uk/html/atera_strada.html
I have one and it is dead easy to fit, easy to tilt, easy to load and folds small so easy to store (in garage or D3 boot).
Cheers

Irrespective of what rack you get, there are no issues with fitting one to the removable tow bar.
The nose weight for the D3's tow bar is 150kg. One of the highest of any car.
(Incidentally, I have the Maxxraxx for 5 bikes and have had absolutely no problems on the removable tow bar). The next American ex-pat that calls it a "truck" is going to find out what 2.7 tons feels like on their foot...
