Today's improvement

...had the worn/greasy/plastic steering wheel removed today and replaced with a new soft Nappa leather wheel in line with the latest JLR products.

Good work by Royal Steering Wheels in Aylesbury, they seem to be held in very high demand and were busy when I turned up this morning. They cater for most vehicles I think. The quality of the installation was brilliant - he even wiped down my seats with baby wipes after fitting to keep the leather clean and fresh Shocked

I'm very pleased with the finish, it gives the interior a nice premium feel and I think it compliments the more modern piano black interior kit I've stuck in as well.

More exciting updates to follow on Monday after Mr Bodsy himself spends the day with the G4... 8)

Cheers,
Chris

Off Roading in the Snow

Very little to report by way of updates on the G4, it's generally ticking along nicely. The battery could probably do with replacing and it's got a dead glow plug, so start-up is a little rough on these cold mornings, but it passed its MOT the other week with no advisories.

So instead I thought I'd share some recent photos. I headed out in to the mud and snow with a friend on Sunday, absolutely no drama from the D3 as you would expect. The RRS on stock tyres was very capable too.

(got stuck here ^^^ oops)

It's almost the longest I've kept a car, and still very much as in love with it as I was on day one Thumbs Up

Just an update on the G4 for anyone who might be interested!

The old girl has just clocked 90,000 miles, and I've had a fair bit of work carried out over the last couple of months. As well as the usual service items, I've put in a new air suspension compressor and had a full EPB strip down (new retainers and spring clips etc) - all functioning well (and quietly!) now.

Last week she was under the knife and had the body off, which was a fairly big bit of surgery. I had a screeching noise which turned out to the exhaust crossover pipe. Having the body off provided access to replace all the brake pipes, renew the front and rear timing belts, the fan belt and the oil pump. The latter was purely for peace of mind as it's an 08MY and don't think it's ever been replaced.

I've also just fitted a new battery this weekend ahead of the cold months (was on a Lucas 800A so upgraded to a Tayna Exide EA1000 as recommended on here) and cleaned the battery connectors.

Here she is this weekend, alongside her new baby sibling.

Next on the list...

    1) Since the body off work, I've had a couple of "Low Coolant" warnings and had to top it up twice. I've got FBH and rear AC so suspect it just needs more fluid than the garage poured in after doing the timing belts (no leaks visible).

    2) Since the body off work, it's been throwing a fault code (B1B78-84) - think that means AC needs re-gassing although hadn't noticed. Possibly a consequence of having everything in pieces last week?

    3) Cold start-up is a bit rough and idle is lumpy for the first 10 seconds on first start of day. Has been like this for a while but particularly noticeable in the cold. Wondering if it needs new injectors or if some injector cleaner might smooth it off?

Overall though it's working pretty well and I'm still very happy with it! Very Happy

Thanks Andy, I remember it well! Had a great day, just over 11 years ago now if you can believe it. Hope you're doing well. Do you still visit Tong?

Blimey was that really 11 years ago Shocked

I haven't been up to Tong for a couple of years now, things all changed when Rebecca the owner sadly passed away and since I did my Paramedic training I just don't have the time (or vehicle) any more!

IID Values

Is anyone able to determine if these values are normal / healthy, please? For injectors I'm led to believe that the closer to 1000 the better, but Injectors 4 & 6 look a little far off? Regarding fuel pressure, not sure what value is normal here?

Injectors:

4 is on the low side, 6 is on the high side.

Range should be 700-1200 but a healthy one should read near 1000.

I would be considering changing 4 and 6.
