Had a Disco 2003 from new for three years and loved it. Great in the mountains, and took us to, and through, the deserts and mountains of New Mexico, Colrado and Utah twice with nary a problem. But the new (last month) LE3 is light-years ahead. Still getting used to all the Bells and Whistles, and still fiddling with the seat positions, but otherwise a great investment.
It's started snowing in earnest today and I'm itching to get out there. The only criticism I have is that the Canadian dealers clap Wranglers on as base tyres. I changed the Disco to Michelins for the road and the difference was astonishing. I'm hoping Santa will bring me a set of Pirelli Scorpions with wheels.

you don't want one it's aload of crap compared to the Disco 200. Smooth gear changes, taught suspension blah blah blah, it's not what it's cracked up to be. No no you need a Diahatsu Field Track.

I currently have a D2 and D3 until I can sell the D2! Love them both but D3 certainly a much more refined road car. Fuel economy is about the same, haven't had the D3 offroad yet. D2 has 100,000 km with no problems except replacing fuel block. Hope D3 is just as reliable!!

I changed from a D2 to D3 in March 2006, no problems to date. The difference between the two models is incredible. D3...better ride, more power, particularly noticeable when towing. Fuel consumption is about the same if you drive carefully. Go for the auto box, don't even consider manual.

Ummm---depends where you buy it. My Canadian '06 HSE V8 5 seater has air suspension. And given we had several inches of snow overnight, thank goodness for the "Snow and Ice" setting. I was initially sceptical that the dial-a-drive would really make much difference. Driving Madam to work this morning made me a convert. Also noticed that the acceleration lag disappeared when in the Snow'n Ice setting. Now that's useful.Good Judgement is the result of Experience which is the result of Bad Judgement.

I am picking up my disco three today, here in St. lucia you can get a 5 seat SE with air suspension, auto ext, pretty much fully loaded.

St Lucia, very nice. Wots sunshine like, I've forgotten. webbed feet city here. Thanks for all the comments, they go a good way to allaying some of what must have been early issues. I'll probably eventually go for an HSE + a few bits & bobs in due course, & just take out the back seats. (thats where an inflatable dinghy & dog gets thrown in.). Of course - I could just keep the D2 & upgrade the boat to that nice classic 27' Searay Pachanga (2 x 7.2 litre mercruisers) thats still for sale ...

yep had a D2 - 2003. I have fond memories for it, it was very reliable, great in the snow, but not good comfort wise for a 1300 mile motorway round trip. And realisitically as others have said it is a bit of a tractor compared to a D3. The air suspension is light years away from the D3 coils. I used to get bounced off the celing in the D2 if I went above 10mph up my track, the D3 can do it at 40 & you just feel the odd tingle !!!! Driving The D3 (HSE) is like sitting in your fav armchair & being transported in luxury to your destination. I never seem to have the excellent music system under 25 on the volume these days as it's better than my home system !!!!
Oh yes and despite the scare stories I have found the pre-heating great so far this winter, the car really warms up quickly.
No electrical problems so far...apart from some errant mirror alignment, and I had to have the lower steering shaft replaced under warranty as it was clunking over the rough. 2007 TDV6 HSE 'Silver Lady'. With 'free' privacy glass LOL.
Taking the greenpi$$ is: Green taxing your citizens more & using some of the money to buy nukes.

I am on my second one now, love it tdv6 hse, auto. not any problems at all with this one, one or two with the first just wee silly things. I agree with all the comments made above. I pull a very large caravan all over the uk, france, etc. plenty of power and comfort. Iv'e tried the germans, americans, jap 4x4's none come close. go on treat yourself your a long time dead.
